Depends on the weight. Is it 3500KG or less ,or more?

EDIT £225 unless PHGV £165

loads get registered wrong . sometimes i think the original buyers dont want to be driving a commercial vehicle .
remember its not just a vehicle to some .
they get confused with the goods bit .

I did read a while back that you can get the logbook changed by providing the correct weight to PHGV... anyone else had to do this?

it can be uprated to phgv but you need a relevant driving licence plus the upgrade needs to be supported by an engineers report and other documents. so not a simple case of sending off the v5 to DVSA to be updated

Yes as Alan said if it is already 4250kg on the V5C then just send the V5 back with the revision (wrong tax class) and a photo of the weight plate & VIN number. I trust it does actually say Motorcaravan on the V5 too?

Mine was incorrectly recored on the V5 as PLG, just a photo of weight plate and V5 sent off to DVLA and it was changed to PHGV saving £60 per year !

if its an error on the v5 and the only plate says 4250kg then hopefully an easy fix. if any previous owner or the converter downplated then thats a different matter

are you sure normally phgv tax 165.
all m,homes over 3,500kg gvw should be private heavy goods .
mind so long as you are only paying the less amount you might not care . but be careful next year. as it could be dearer.

i got involved in all this sort of thing in the early 90.late 80,s . it was at the time driving licences etc were changing . most lost the rights to drive large coaches etc not for hire or reward etc .
it was also decided at the time that motor homes do carry goods . your goods . be they not for sale etc . but your goods are carried . it was never put plain in writing but once you accept m,homes carry goods things become easier to under stand .
mind plg used to be private large goods . now it means private light goods .
that does cause confusion .
but it does seem yours as been registered correct . never be afraid to ask, it takes hours and hours to understand the rules even then they can change over night almost. i,m sure help will always be at hand .
