We stayed there and it lovely, a nice walk to the house and grounds. You are allowed on the grounds for free but still pay for the house. The site is lovely but be aware there is a very strict arrival time at this site I think it is 1pm. You can also walk to a bus stop for a local bus to Bakewell, cheap fares. :)

Hello Stephen ,Yes we have stayed and its a very nice site just pop through the back door from the site and you are in the grounds of the estate with a pleasant walk up to the house .Then if you go the opposite way you come out by the bus stop in the village after passing the pubs ,We would go again, in fact while we were there a helicopter landed behind the pub and they all went for lunch  how stylish. 13.00 hours arrival due to narrow approach road.

thankyou but why 1pm regards steve

Limited entrance. You have to be off site before 12 as It's a long and narrow road to the site from the main road, plus it's a bit short on space over the little bridge and tight righthander to the check in.
Cracking site, nice walk thru the grounds to Baslow and pubs :)

We stayed there last year, it's a great site with some lovely walks, while we were there we treated ourself to champagne afternoon tea at the house, it was our wedding anniversary, it was the best with have every had, and we have had a few. When you book in your given a key to the back door of the old walled garden so you can let yourself into the park land, it's like have your own Estate in the evening. (y)

Long time
I think the woods at Chatsworth are not dog friendly! Meaning that some dogs have been extremely sick/died of a mystery seasonal disease, there are several woods that this has been associated with.
See below, not sure if Chatsworth woods is involved or not!
SEASONAL CANINE ILLNESS (SCI)
Seasonal Canine Illness is a mystery illness affecting dogs during the autumn, which can prove to be fatal.

Cases are generally seen between August and November. SCI can affect dogs of any size, shape or sex and it causes dogs to become very ill, very quickly after being walked in woodland.

The most common clinical signs are sickness, diarrhoea and lethargy typically experienced within 72 hours of walking in woodland. If you suspect your dog is showing signs of SCI then please contact your vet immediately.

We are unable to advise on specific cases, or offer specific or individual advice on where you should or shouldn’t walk your dog during SCI season.

The cause of SCI is unknown and there are no known preventive measures. You may wish to ask your vet about topical spray treatments for mites to apply to your dog immediately before a walk.

In recent years, there has been a dramatic decrease in the number of fatal cases. We hope this is due to increased awareness of the condition and that dog owners now know to contact a vet for advice if they spot any of the clinical signs.

Information provided to us certainly shows that if dogs get veterinary treatment quickly for SCI signs, they tend to recover within seven-10 days. In 2010, 20% of cases reported to the AHT resulted in death. In 2012, less than two per cent of cases reported to us resulted in death.

Reference dogs, you do have to keep them on a lead whilst in the grounds which can be a little frustrating with all the acres available. However, with stags grazing etc I can see why.

Road in is narrow and a bit twisty, there are a few passing places IF YOU ARE A CAR! Best leave it till 1300hrs as they say. Site is good well plenty of trees, Wood pidgeons roost, and Crap, we were at #83 but changed to #85 due to Woodies Crapping. TV reception is a bit of a hazard, you need a lead to plug into the "post"
If you are a bit "infirm" the walk to the bus is a bit of a way. While we were there recently there were several Rat type dogs that only had to catch sight of each other to carry on a most annoying noise. Lovely green site plenty of trees and wildlife, however only 1 facility block, Be Early!
Staff, however ARE MARVELLOUS!(y)
