Cologne Koblenz via Zeebrugge (1 Viewer)

Any advice welcome on best route from port to probably Cologne first and where to stop. I'm off September for 2 weeks

All very well until you find the mototway exit you need is closed as we found last September! Found the stellplatz in the end,parked right down the far end backing onto the park.
40 min walk along the Rhine to the cathedral.

On this trip we're not going to flit around too much and enjoy some of the places we stopped last year for a little longer. Also go down the Rhine a little way to the place @hilldweller recommended in my last years Mosel thread.

For those vehicles that cannot meet requirements for an emission zone Umwelt
(Feinstaubplakette) This is the route you must take

From Aachen, Krefeld or Neuss:
A57 to end of motorway, then take the left lane (direction Zoobrücke / Messe), after about 1500 m before Zoobrücke turn right (towards Zoo / Flora) , straight through the intersection until Rheinuferstraße (Dutch bank), there at the traffic lights, after about 800 m behind "AXA turn skyscraper "right (turning lane in the parking lot) The entrance to the parking lot is on the right from the parking lot towards the Rhine .

Looks like the most direct route would take you round Antwerp! We came east/west two weeks ago,Sunday,sailed through,west to east was virtually stationary!so maybe best avoided I seem to remember someone mentioning Antwerp as somewhere to avoid the other day.

Beware of using CARAVAN CLUB overseas booking. Wife did a search this morning on P&O site and immediately after tried via CC online to find it near £50 MORE expensive! for exact same

Literally just back. ( still on m25) and visited some of the area to and from Bavaria as our main bit
Koblenz stellplatz great as outside campsite but full by midday - arrive early. Incredible views and easy cycling into old town.
€15 plus 3.50 unlimited 16 amp electric. You can also use the campsite immaculate loos and showers. Bread delivery daily plus brasserie on site.
Also went to kitzingen - tiny old town, could walk in 10 minutes. Another great stellplatz right by the river, about 60 spaces, but full by early evening. Next to a park with small reasonable cafe, toilets, library and bread
Tried cologne on way down - jam packed, no spaces at all so moved on.
Spent last night at Aachen - also great, toilets, showers, really large spaces (long and wide) and 10 minute cycle to old town, which is gorgeous and what Bruges ( without canals) would be like if not so full of tourists. 15 euros again collected twice a day.

We stayed at the Rhein-Mosel/Koblenz site run by Knaus. Expensive (74 Euros for 2 nights last year) but modern and a great position for the city. Don't pay the ferry man Plenty of pitches with view over the river.

Later we went to Camping Rudersheim (D-65385 Rudershein am Rhein. Again really modern clean facilities and a good position for walking or cycling into the town. Reasonably priced I think we paid about 27 Euro a day

Aachen is a lovely city and well worth a stop and the stellplatz is very good. Last year we went via Bruges, Ghent but managed to avoid both Antwerp & Brussels, went to Liege, Maastricht and Aachen but then went to Dusseldorf as we were meeting our daughter there. The must see in Cologne is the huge cathedral, the bridge padlocks but the visit highlight was the Lindt chocolate factory museum down by the river - yum!

We found the Rhine between Koblenz and Mainz this year a bit disappointing compared to the Mosel last year. No bridges between Koblenz and Mainz so once you've chosen your side you are stuck with it unless you want to take a ferry. We went down the east side. Railways on both sides of the river so night times tend to be noisy!
