Right all.I hate to bring things down so low but I need advice from your good selves
I thought it was just simply keep flap closed till all business was done and then open flap.
Now my young lad wants to leave it a small bit open while he does a wee,as he experiences "splashback" when he opens the flap after.
He won't open it fully because of the chance of "smell"
Now the question is can he do this without any chance of wee getting past the seal into the cassette compartment

Should be used flap open.
If smell is an issue you need to use chemicals or fit a SOG or a combination.

P.S. if he don't pee directly down the trap there is nothing to splash back

Close the lid before opening the flap to flush.

Use Bio washing liquid. Its cheap, (supermarket own brands), and nasty blue stuff free. Two capfulls in the cassette when empty. Try and empty every two days. Always leave the shutter open, or 'STUFF' gets dragged into the seal, and you have to use your toothbrush to clean it.

Tell him to keep the flap shut and sit down. I know, its a girly thing but promise him you won't tell anyone.

The main advantage is for whoever cleans the loo. Much less collateral damage around the seat, bowl and floor due to the improved accuracy which reduced firing range produces.

I have tested this scientifically but the video is no longer available so you will have to take it on trust.

I'll have you know I once did a weekend course on competitive pistol shooting. This involved using one hand and standing sideways to the target. Previously I had used two hands and faced the target.

Of course the latter requires you to have a pistol you can hold with two hands.

In my old age I find it easier to face away from the target, sit down and allow gravity to do the work.

Thetford recommend flap closed, a quick flush to wet bowl to prevent skids and put a little water in the bowl to prevent skids on the seal blade, open flap and flush again when done.
they also state the flap can be opened first then a short flush to wet the bowl.

No amount of pre flush will prevent post curry and beer skidmarks in either method.

Just found out the previous owners had been putting "blue" in the flush tank.
how the bowl wasnt stained blue is anyones guess.

Depends on where you position the camera. The possibilities are of course greater with the flap open.

I think the flap should be open to accommodate the disposal of all waste, end of.

Using that method you can use the flap to chop it into shorter lengths should your head get to close to the ceiling.

A skid mark outside a toilet door is the defination of failure.

I use it flap closed for a pee, flap open for a poo. I have a SOG. And to answer one of the OP questions - flap open or closed it will go where intended. The cassette is always sealed to the bowl.
