Early Mot And Imported Van,lose 7 Months (1 Viewer)

Got my V11 today to renew my vehicle tax. In small print it tells me when mot is due, 1/1/16. As vehicle was first registered in Germany 15/7/13 I expected mot to be 15/7/16. DVSA tell me if they cant confirm date of first registration in germany then it is 3 years from when vehicle is built, so built in 2012 plus 3 years is 1/1/16.
On british registration, the german log book, showing date of first german registration, was sent to DVLA and they kept it. V5 shows date of first registration as 15/7/13 but thats not what is on the system for mot. Have spoken to DVLA ( they are the ones that update the info) and they have requested email which I have sent. Worst case is I get mot 7 months before its due.......
So if you have an import under 3 years old look at that V11 tax reminder.

It may not be such a bad thing. I bought our van new in early June 2013 so it will need its first MOT in June next year. Unfortunately, June is not a month we expect to be around in the UK. The tax and insurance we can renew on line but not the MOT. So I will have to get the MOT done early, probably in April. You can only do the MOT a month early if you want to keep the original anniversary, so to speak. The result is my vehicle will from then on always need an MOT in April.

So what does this mean, if anyone is still with me? Well, unless you are a skiing enthusiast a January date for the MOT could be quite convenient.

It wont apply for the first four years on all new stuff now.

It matters?? OK, you will have to shell out £55.00 seven months early, but you probably saved a few bob buying from Panzerland.

Tootles,You are right of course, really the problem is if you dont realise its due before the 3 years from first registration is up you will be blissfully unaware until police pull you over , no reminders for MOT unless you see that small print on the v11.
