Have bought a 12v Fan. (Wanted the clip-on type really!) You watch the heatwave disappear now!

It's the type that has a 'shoe' fixing. Don't want to screw the bracket permanently - need to make something that I can either use a hand clamp with, or dangle it (say) from locker or wardrobe at night.

Seem to remember a few photos recently posted, but no making destructions!

Ideas anyone?

screw it to a scrap of wood and use a woodworking clamp or a large crocodile clip or 2 as used on market stalls

More than toes wet now!
Talk to your local barman and see if he's got any old \ unused optic clamps kicking about. They've got pre-drilled holes in them that you might be able to bolt your fan to?

That is what I have done, works well. I have a couple of the big clips from one of the shows.

The Clip On fan in my thread 'Cooling Ideas' was only £10 from B&Q..
maybe cheaper elsewhere..

It can be powered by either 4 x AA batteries, Mains or USB .

any mini 12v I have tried (years ago) were hopeless.. not much torque and hardly moved any air. Whereas a 230 v desk fan even in heatwaves worked so well you would turn it of at night as to cold.....can always be run off an inverter

Thanks all.
Might look into that Bleedin' Q one Jim. Not bad for a Tenner.

Haven't got a USB point in the hab area though, only in the cab (and have air-con in the cab anyway). Really just wanted 12v cigar type for when off-grid. I have a convenient 12v socket near the bed. Could get yet another adaptor to take USB I suppose, but don't really want that. Also, I've got more house fans than Justin Bieber!

im a not so newbie
You could buy a glass sucker, the industrial type, then fix the fan to it

The sucker should fix to any flat surface

actually not a bad idea, as you could hang it off a top locker door frame

We have 2 fans the same as in wingmans photo. I bought a lampwire with a large clamp on ot for 1.99, threw the wire away and just used the clamp.

It is supplied with both 12v plug and USB

Well, thanks again all for the ideas.

The fan arrived yesterday and as patience isn't my virtue (Lord give me patience - but I want it right now!!) I couldn't wait to give it a whirl.

Pro-tem, I've screwed the 'shoe' to a piece of timber and have then used a clamp to fix it to any convenient surface. Works fine, but not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Will eventually do the job properly and try some of your suggestions.

I think that with a metal bracket/hanger, there would be resonance from the fan, transferred to the fixing point. Would need some way of damping the vibration. The LAST thing I need in the dead of night is wonderment from others about vibrating sounds coming from my van! :giggler:

Thanks again
James
PS. Note to one's self; ask Funsters, THEN buy the product - in that order!
