Advice For A Newbie About To Buy Please (1 Viewer)

We are about to view an Elddis autoquest 130 and a Burnster Nexxus family. Totally different styles l know but we havn't decided which is the best for us. How do you decide until you go and look? Don't want to but in a hurry but as summer is here want one fairly fast. Need passenger seatbelts as don't want to take a car, will walk when we get to wherever we go. Thanks guys

You can't decide before looking and if you buy in rush you might make an expensive mistake

Take the good advice from @Barclaybasher.
If you rush into this you will almost certainly buy the wrong van.
The first and most important thing you need to consider is layout.
Think about the days when you are confined to the Motorhome (with children???)

It's beautiful outside now , but think rain snow bad weather. All being stuck inside the van. Is there room to lounge about. Get out of each other's way. Get your feet up.
Can you stand , bend, get your elbows about in the shower. Sit on the loo , do your knees fit behind the door. Lay on beds, comfy? Smell in cupboards , corners for damp smells .
Cooker , fridge big enough.
Get a damp check done. This weather will have probably dried out any musty smells. Spend time choosing , don't rush in . Just to get one for summer. You could end up with a dud.

Lay out is key, go for the lay out that suits your needs but be prepared to compromise, make a list for pros and cons, haves and must haves but take your time, theres always another van somewhere.

Another one is will it fit on your drive, the car may go down beside your house but the roof or some pipes may stick out that could hit the van. Easy to miss if thinking in car driving mode.

Hi and welcome by now I think you should have sussed that LAYOUT is the be all and end of in a van Like Bev (Ralph and Bev)says think of a rainy day and how comfortable you are going to be -feet up lounging for me and lots of others -Dinettes are great for eating at but bloody uncomfortable to sit at for any length of time -Most van have basics set up ie loo shower cooker fridge hot and cold water and heating -After that things are extras like solar etc so don't go paying over the odds for what people selling are £10 k extras because it won't add virtually anything to the price -just makes it more desirable
If unsure about price then get back and ask us,but do your homework and always ask for a discount also be prepared to walk away, there will always be another van if the seller is asking what you think is too much Never part with any money on a promise to deliver after you paid scamRemember if it sounds to good to be true it generally is

Don't go and look at two vans, go and look at twenty two, thirty two. We were absolutely 100% sure we wanted a fixed bed after twenty odd years of making them up when we were tuggers but guess what! we now own a two berth side bench Autocruise Wentworth which is so far removed from what we thought we wanted it's not even close. Go to big big dealers and look at every van on the place, don't worry about price, find the layout for you then that layout in the price and that suits you.
All the above advice is pure gold learned sometimes the hard and expensive way! It has been said that the third or fourth van you buy is the one you really wanted in the first place, we were very careful, others not so.

The dealer we got our van from has an almost brand-new van for sale - 100 miles only - a couple bought it, used it ONE NIGHT and she refused to sleep in it again. £16k lost, they got a different layout.
There but for the grace & all that .....

Will you be using in the winter? Foreign vans tend to be more insulated against the cold in terms of double floors with water tanks between the two floors to stop them freezing up. It might not be a relevant factor for you but its a significant difference.
