I now have a DIY sog thanks to @Terry and @andy63 but for those of you who have sogs, would you still use a happy bowl or not?
Blade open or closed. What's your method?

Since 2008 & many years tugging
On a serious note, it's not going to work with the blade closed & you will stink out the van. The idea of a SOG is that it draws the smells out of the van & gets rid of any neighbors that have parked too close.:D
On a genuine SOG the fan switch is operated by the blade so it won't work with the blade closed.

I fitted my own SOG and have been really impressed with it
Was less impressed with Happy Bowls so have stopped using them as keeping the toilet bowl clean is not difficult, using disinfectant toilet wipes, which are fine to use with a SOG

Well I have a sort of SOG and I have happy bowl liners. Whether the blade is open or shut and whether I use a happy bowl liner depends upon ....... how shall I put this ....... my risk assessment as to the likely output. Low risk blade open and no happy bowl. High risk blade shut and happy bowl.

We have a SOG and tried a packet of happy B liners but when they were finished we now just lay a few sheets of loo paper in the bowl, serves exactly the same purpose.

And we always keep the blade shut. When you have finished give it a short flush to add a bit of water to the "content" of the bowl and then open the blade and watch it all go down! Then a quick spray with Fabreze to make the place less toxic for the next user. :)

Long time
We use our SOG as it is supposed to be used.
Open blade.
Open loo lid.
Use loo.
Flush.
Wipe if needs be.
Close blade.
Put lid down.
No smell!

Not much point in having a SOG then.
Too much detail for this time of night probably but with my method there is rarely any need to wipe the bowl afterwards. The SOG is there to suck smells away when the blade is open but that's no reason to leave it open unnecessarily. :)
