i'm baffled!!!!!

returning home this weekend i noticed the gauge was erratic to say the least.

one minute half a tank then nowt then 3/4 tank then anywhere in between then after a while it stabilizes for a while.
it only happens below 1/2 a tank.

had this problem returning from stratford last year but thought id cured it.

cleaned and tightened all electrical connectors at the tank end and all seemed ok 'til now.

wondered if anyone else has suffered this, found the fault and fixed it.
i dont want the expense of a new sender unit if its something else/

Hi, Ive had this too. it lasted about 2 weeks then corrected itself. It hadnt reoccurred when I sold the vehicle about 3 months later.
That was on a 2002 2.8JTD.

Check this out, If the gauge is the kind where you have two metal rods from the top of the tank to the bottom of the tank and a float the runs up and down these rods then its possible that you have water in your tank, shorting the rods out and giving you a wrong reading.

Of course the wrong reading is less important than the water in the tank

I hope I am wrong!

Can you remember if it happens when the tank is low or possibly near empty, if so it could be that the water (if any) is emulsifying with the fuel due to the agitation.
