Can anyone suggest the best place for a microwave to be fitted and which microwave to buy?

Sorry, more info required to give helpful answers...

1. How do you plan to power it .. just on EHU , or also on from your battery ?
2. Can you provide a photo of the kitchen area cupboards ?

Generally speaking they are fitted in a cupboard either above or below the work top, sometimes below the gas hob.. and the space available dictates physical size..
If you plan to use off EHU you will also need a decent sized battery bank and a suitable inverter sized for the oven load (not cooking power which is lower) and start up load.

Personally I wouldn't have one, they occupy valuable storage space and also use even more valuable payload..
I seldom use it at home, so no need in a van.. Had one in an American RV and it was used as a bread bin.. waste of space.

We rarely use the microwave at home, first van didn't have one and in all the 5 1/2 years we had it never once said wish we had a microwave. When we bought this one there was a microwave fitted, had it removed, as the storage space was more important, it was heavy, and didn't fit in with our style of motorhoming. Like aires and festivals where hook up is not available, also sometimes choose not to use hookup if the cost is not included in base price.
Having said that, if you do use one often it might be worthwhile. I would opt to trying van out first, then see how much you miss having one. Our friends have one in their van, must ask them if they use it.

On and off for many years.
We had the useless grill taken out and a 240v power socket put at the back of the space that was left. A microwave / grill was put into that space (m/w from Lidl as it was just the right size).

Generally we are on sites as we need 240v most nights for reasons other than the m/w! If we weren't on sites we would have still have had the grill taken out, especially we'd been able to get a door to match the others and maybe not have bothered with a microwave.
