Been given the OK from hospital to travel, so we are off on Thursday. Travelling has been on hold for 18 months, so to say we are excited is an understatement.

As we have little Zippy with us now we have had to pick our ferries carefully. So we are crossing Dover to Calais then driving up to Frederikshavn, Denmark to catch the ferry over to Gothenberg, Sweden. Garry (Flatpackchicken) is coming too, as he did on the last adventure to Scandinavia, we are also meeting another Funster who lives in Sweden, that will be AlfandM (Alf and Marianne). AlfandM invited us for a cuppa two years ago and we have become firm friends. We will be meeting them at their place near Sundsvall before all heading off together to find some peaches of places to camp and fish. (Alf hope you have been doing your homework). Cooking on the open fire the fish we catch - haha! We are not going to travel so much as last time. This time we will be chilling and fishing by some lovely lakes and rivers, moving on each week to a different place. We have loose plans, but we are thinking of driving some of the Wilderness Road again and popping over into Norway, again to do a bit of fishing. When and if we have had enough and have some time left we might visit Germany and possibly go to one of the POW camps before catching the ferry back on the 14th September ready to prepare for the Adventure Overland Show on 27th September.

Not sure of the coverage we will get from our 3 Mifi, but will post when we can.

Nigel, Pamala and Zippy

We've had a really good trip up to Frederikshavn. We are sitting on the harbour waiting for our ferry over to Gothenburg, which leaves at the ungodly hour if 12.15am, but cheap for that time and using the free Wifi here. We have already planned our first sleeping spot in Sweden, it's only about 30 miles to drive after leaving the ferry terminal, it's lakeside, so if it's nice we may spend an extra day there.

We have been buying diesel all the way in France, Belgium, Germany and Denmark for 86p/litre. The LPG we got for 36.6 cents/ litre in Belgium. Just did a bit of shopping in Denmark, and because of the exchange rate at the moment, looks as though we will be living cheaply whilst here.

Sat outside today having lunch in the sun and took a lovely stroll along the beach. We are quite excited as it's a possibility we may see the Northern Lights tonight on our ferry journey. Wouldn't that be a bonus.

Our little Zippy is having a whale of a time, first long trip for him, first time in the sea, and is as good as gold, what more could we ask of him.

More to follow when possible.

It's a while since we got internet, even Garry couldn't get 3 on his phone in the place we stopped at, so got himself a local sim card so as he could keep in touch.

We had a good sailing but unfortunately, after staying outside on deck all the way we didn't get to see the Northern Lights, heyho! We kipped 18 miles outside of Gothenburg at a lovely spot by a lake and met up with an old friends, we found this place in a book we have showing good camping spots (this was free, the sort of place we look for). We took another four days to get to Alf's & Mariannes, who live near Bispgarden. We travelled over old ground to start with and stayed in the same places we did on the last trip, before heading cross country along some unsealed roads and boy did we see some lovely camping spots by rivers, which are on our must stay list for the future. On our way to our last camping spot before getting to AlfandM's, we pulled into a layby as someone wanted to relieve themselves. Unbeknown to us, it was the ideal place to camp for the night, it had a little log cabin for anyones use with a fire inside and a couple of BBQ places outside, along with WC's and picnic tables, so that is where we decided to stay. Again wood was supplied by the local Council (Kommune). So that evening we cooked inside the cabin and outside the next morning, a lovely fryup was had by the boys.

After filling up with water at the local garage, we stayed at AlfandM's for a couple of nights before heading to a spot down by the river where we stayed a couple of years back. We spent a heavenly 6 nights, camping and fishing and of course catching up with the laundry. The weather has been very good, but a couple of days down by the river it was uncomfortably hot, but good for drying the washing. Garry caught 5 Perch (4 in one day) and a couple of roach. We prepared the perch and after boning them (millions of bones) I made some fish cakes with them. We only used the cooker once in the camper, the rest was done on our wood stove (it's the same sort of thing as an OZpig), it has been brilliant. All the water for showers, washing and washing up has been heated on the stove with water from the river. Wood was gathered from the surrounding forest.

After looking at the weather forecast we saw that rain was on it's way, so thought it was time to get on the road, so today we left our paradise and have headed for the Wilderness route. We left Ostersund this afternoon, stocked up from Lidl and are now on our way to Stromsund to sort out some fishing licences for when we travel around the Wilderness route. We hope to stay at what we call OUR SPOT BY THE RIVER, in a couple of days or so. Then we are making our way to Norway at a place called Namsos.

Tonight we are camping at a picnic spot on the E45 where we were able to empty our cassettes in a long drop. The toilets are for sharing - yes, you can go to the toilet together, two seats in one, don't think we'll take them up on that one. We have also got good internet, not sure how long it will last, so this may be our last update for a while. Raining tonight, but had a lovely meal inside and are ready for our next few days adventure. Not seen any wildlife to speak of, saw some pairs of dancing birds, but that is about all. Looking forward to seeing more, may have to do some early morning driving in the middle of nowhere for a chance to see something. Mozzies not as bad as Finland but still have to cover ourselves with spray most days. Bought ourselves some hats with face nets today and mine is pink, you wouldn't miss me in the bush I can tell you.

Be back when we can, til next time. From the FLT's
