I am buying a Hymer B544 which has a GVW of 3900kg. I am going to apply to SV Tech to downrate to 3500kg.
I had it weighed yesterday and the unladen weight was 2780kg ( no driver, water , 1/4 petrol.
Is there any reason to prevent this being downplated.

I think the road tax gets a little more expensive.

Agreed with Alan above.

Simply enter the new weight on the V5, it even tells you to correct any mistakes, and return to "Dont Voluntarily Listen Anyway" (DVLA) with a short cover letter.....STAPLED TO THE V5 so they cant lose it.

Downplating is easy to do yourself, up plating is the hard part.

I agree John, but I still need to replace the present weight plate which shows 3900kgs to be legal and I guess SV Tech would supply that.

it can be a bit of ally or even a sticker .
any workshop with letter and number stamps can make you one . or ebay as loads on there.
you dont need a plate till they say yes you can do it.
the plates the last thing you need . could be a strip of masking tape with biro writing .
many usa imports are just that.

I haven't mentioned, the reason for downplate is a restriction on my licence of 3500kgs.

some of us know but wont tell .hee hee

Alan, somebody made me think how daft the regs are, removal of my C1+E stops me from driving a 7500kg RV but I still have B+E which means in theory I could drive a 3500kg vehicle and tow the 7500kg RV :Eeek::doh:

i know , i do drop downs fron 7.5 ton trucks to 3.5ton . they keep the original train weight .
but your b+e allows any trailer so long as you dont break the trainweight of the towing vehicle . isuzu can be 11ton , i have seen a 12 ton train weight but cant remember what it was.
if and when i get to 70 i might have to lower my truck . then move the wheels on the trailer so it only puts 500kg or less on the pin . would have to mot the unit then . bah
but i could keep driving same vehicle and trailer .
i,ve been letting lots know a fifth wheeler is the way for years . no towing on aframes or trailers . m,bike in the back . its all mental.
by the way its not theory its the truth.
mind you have always been able to do it its not a new idea .
mind you would need airbrakes on the trailer . but thats not that hard . my truck doesnt have air brakes but my trailer does .
