I have just been trying to reinstall some old laptops and came across one that was first powered up in 1999 with windows 98. Jeez it is fast.
Word 97 loads up in a second or two. Which is faster than it does on my Dell XPS-13 which I have just spent WELL over £1000 for.

I am tempted to keep that old laptop to do my word processing on

And there was me thinking you'd have stuck Linux Mint / Libre Office on it by now!

Some say that Windows has been going downhill since 98 Second Edition :D

I couldn't, it won't boot off USB and I don't have any blank CD's/DVD's.

That's what you get when companies employ coders using generators instead of real programmers Roger :D
Aw Graham! You've used the "G" word. Stand by for a Barney Rubble.

On and off for many years.
I use an old Windows 95 machine for some of my quilt design work as it is reliable and runs Clarisworks. No USB or CD though - but that is okay as I need the patterns printed out!

I still have Windows 3.1, 98 and XP machines in the house for similar reasons - relics of when we had our family history business. We used to offer a service of converting files from old family history databases into Gedcom files so that they could be processed by more modern software packages.
