Now which is the best side of the river to be on for this drive?

Any ideas seasoned travellers?

Hi. My advice. Don't stick to one side or the other, check your maps and discover little gems on either side.

Keep on the side with most vineyards.
It'll be the sunnier side!:)

Lovely part of the world to explore. Its three years since we were near the Rhine so I'm getting a bit vague about which bits we visited. Trier is nice though, the stellplatz is large and busy and near the river. We walked into the busy town, quite a fair walk but we were not in any hurry.

Another place we stayed at is Oberwesel. Nice small town well worth an explore. The stellplatz is 8 euros a night (pay at machine across the road) and we didn't notice any service point. Lovely view looking over river watching the many cruise ships pass by.

You can just about see the stellplatz in the photo, don't be put off by the railway, didn't disturb us and the pleasant town is just this side of the tracks via a short tunnel.
