Big Gertie has a Zig MC-2000 control panel with a 12v socket in it. I would like an adaptor that gives me 2 USB (preferably 1 @1A and 1 @ 5A) but the plug on the standard car adaptor I have is too "fat"

Look as I may I cannot find what I want on ebay (or wherever) I am sure someone much wiser than me will shake their head, sigh and promptly post a link to the very thing I want (y)

Well, I like to hope so!

Thanks

The socket you have is probably a DIN socket, similar, but, as you have noted, smaller than a traditional cigarette lighter socket. You can get a an adapter from this to the standard "fat" socket, (most motorhome dealers stock them)then use USB adapters in that.

So is a DIN socket the same as a HELLA socket?

I thought 2.1A was the maximum per USB socket?

I don't think the above is what you want. That is DIN plug to double DIN socket. From what you say, you need something like this:
DIN to standard cig lighter. Then the commonly available USB adapters that pug in to a standard cig lighter will fit.Like this:

I've never seen a USB adapter that fits a DIN socket - although they may well exist.

Spot on - thanks.

Supplementary question - how much power does a 2.1A USB socket take? It;s the one I'd need to charge my tablet which has a 6300 mHa battery

2.1 amp is the maximum power for the USB side so at 5 volt(usb) X 2.1 amp - 10.5 watts (max) loose a bit of efficiently between the 12volt and the 5v USB and you will be using less than 1amp at 12volt for a single usb

2.1 amp max actually you asked how much power so 2.1 x 12V = 25.2 Watts
Watts being the SI unit of power.

Sorry, should have been clearer. Is that a lot of power to take or not too much? I.E. if I charged my tablet twice would that seriously deplete the leisure battery? Not looking for exact science, just a general "feel"

Thanks

Look at it from the battery point of view, your tablet battery is 6.3 A/H your leisure battery will be something like 90 A/H so a couple of charges isn't going to run it flat but it will add to all the other things you use your battery for.
