Hi to all you happy campers... I'm new to this and I haven't got my camper yet... I'm on pip and receive higher rate mobility... I am not a wheelchair user and the only adaption I'd need to make would be to put a thingy on the steering wheel to turn it easier...I've wanted a green vw camper my whole adult life... and now I find myself with disabilities and need to get away from the rat race and be at peace with nature... can anyone advise me on how to go about getting a vw camper on motorbility and if I even can... Many thanks for your time.... Love and light...... Raven x

I don't think you can. Motorbility have a set list of vehicles to choose from. Go on line and have a look.

welcome to the fun, I am sure the disabled members will come up with the definitive answer for you very soon but why not set your sights on something a little larger so you can actually spend some time in it rather than just have a day van.

Have just been on the Motability website and there are no camper vans to lease whatsoever!

So you would have to use your allowance privately.

Think you would be best to use your mobility allowance to off set a loan and have a look privately. Good luck.

That's a bummer! Horrible condition you suffer from. Have you someone who could help you to look and guide you through the process?

ah my misunderstanding of what motorability is nowerdays I know people bought new and saved the VAT or purchase tax as was applicable at the time, Someone who knows the full current story will no doubt help.

Does it have to be a VW? Why not contact Wildax campers who do van conversions for the disabled and should therefore be able to offer some advice re the motability/VAT question. They also do have a selection of models which might interest you. The boss Duncan is very approachable.

On and off for many years.
Just saying hello!

And for what it is worth I think you might well be better going a bit larger than a VW. You will soon get used to driving a slightly larger vehicle, actually our 7.5 tonner (long gone) was easier to drive than my Mini and far more comfortable. What about a van conversion (PVC)? Several members on the forum have done their own conversions and would be willing to give advice I am sure.

The rules about VAT and modified vehicles are complex and convoluted so you do need to take expert advice....

Welcome.

Can I second the comments so far that a VW camper is really quite an impractical vehicle. They are really just metal tents to be honest.

If you go a little bigger you will get a lot more for the same or less money and find it much more useful. Also I've no idea what your symptoms are but remember with a VW you have to use site facilities whereas a bigger van will give you some on board facilities of your own.
