I've put this under "wild camping" because it didn't really fit in with "touring". We've been trying to find somewhere in Glasgow to stop over for two nights, but Glasgow appears to be very "motorhome unfriendly".

We had planned to leave the van at Bankell Farm when our daughter gets married in February next year. Sadly Bankell Farm CL is closed and we can't find anywhere else to stopover at. The plan was to drive up in the van, park it safely for two nights whilst we go to the wedding and stay overnight in a hotel in the city centre.

Does anyone know of a suitable, safe place to leave our van that isn't too far from Drumbreck Road in the south side of Glasgow where the wedding is being held.

Strathclyde Park CC site and the other site at Stepps is a bit far out, just a pity about Bankell Farm:(

Any ideas would be really helpful.

Im racking my brain here but everywhere I know or can suggest is all on the east side.

What about the hotel car park where you intend staying. Personally I wouldnt be bribging a large MH like yours and sleeping in a hotel. I would be using the MH

Thinking cap on now :)

Does The Burrell take motorhomes? If so, overnight?

Agree Sandra, but our daughter had an idea that it would be nice for close family to stay overnight in a hotel nearby. Unfortunately the hotel is in the west end and not really an option to park the van there.

Bill phoned House for an Art Lover this morning and they said we could leave the van in their car park which is shared with the ski centre.........so this looks encouraging(y)

Thanks for you all for your replies, the wedding is at House for an Art Lover and they said that we could "possibly" leave the van overnight where the coaches park. We're just a bit wary of leaving it unattended overnight when we leave there to stay elsewhere.

Might be worth a call to Glasgow City Council?
General Parking Enquiries: 0141 287 4040

Thanks, I phoned them before about this and they were less than helpful. When you get a young girl at the end of the phone and she has to ask a colleague it sends warning bells to me:( But I phoned the wedding venue and they said it should be alright to leave it in their car park.

Fingers crossed it will be ok.

Does it surprise me, eh no!

Hopefully you're sorted with parking at HfaAL.
I've attached a "map" showing you the local layout.
House for an Art Lover.jpg
Basically, it's a big parkland area and next to the ski centre, bowling club, etc.
Been at various functions in the venue and ski club and reckon m\h will be fine parked there. Haven't heard of any significant trouble.

Your just 2 minutes off the mate and if you're coming up the M74 or M77 follow the signs for Glasgow Airport.
House for an Art Lover2.jpg

There's also an Asda fuel station (Helen Street, Govan) about 5 minutes from there with good access for the cheapest fuel in the area. Use the "pay at pump" pumps which are the first two lanes (for near and offside fillers) closest to the McDonalds. This saves you having to squeeze out through the pay booths. The canopy height looks low but is 3.50m. By the looks of your avatar it might be a hi-line Auto-trail(?) you have and our Savannah fits under no problem.

Access into the superstore car park and parking, if required, should be OK for motorhomes.

There's an access ramp onto mate \ M74 (both east and west) for your return journey next to Asda. If using the M77 be aware that the junction off mate \ M74 has a sharp bend (no problems getting round it) but don't take it too fast!

Hopefully useful and let me know if you need any more info.

ps I hate "text speak"! Why does the letter M and the number 8 change to "mate" when you post?

Hi, thanks very much for your reply, I was born in Kilmarnock, Margaret lived in East Kilbride for over 30 years. We are very familiar with Glasgow and spent a lot of "young life" socialising in and around the city, especially the southside.
The main concern was finding somewhere to leave the van for a couple of nights. We have a flat in Shawlands, which is rented out at the moment, otherwise we would have used that and left the van close to it. When I phoned the city council, they said we could always park it on the road near the venue, provided there were no restrictions.
But recently we've had some strange reactions when we've parked in residential areas. So we didn't really want to park it on the road around Dumbreck.

I spoke to someone at HfaAL a couple of months back and asked about parking and it was suggested that I phone the city council. I did point then that we were the wedding party and would expect parking to be available. However, when I phoned again two days ago I got someone different and she said it would be alright to park where the coaches park. So will be firming this up on Monday, with "name, rank and number" of said member of staff::bigsmile:

Many thanks again for your help, will tell you how we get on.

Aw naw Bill
Not the Corunna Bar with The Simple Minds guys or were you in the yuppie crowd at Findlays?
Given the amount of traffic in and around Shawlands these days you might struggle a bit to get the van parked anywhere sensible.
So you'll be coming up via Killie to pick up the pies then?
Hope all goes well for you getting sorted out.

Naw. Whatever they do don't leave green in the van. Venue is 5 minutes walk from Ibrox.
Having said that probably best to leave red, yellow and black as passer bys will take sympathy anjd leave donations!

Do not leave anything in the van, the Govan thieves do not care which side of the divide you come from.
