Ok so our gas fire keeps going off and it actually banged out once.
I remember having a wee fouter with this knob once before but I dont really know what its meant to do so rather than have another fouter I thought I should ask what its for.
Could it be linked to our fire going off all the time?
ps. Our cooker works fine
Its the knob to the left off the yellow thing.

I'm sure it's the thing that the service engineer connects his gadget to ....

More than toes wet now!
Also believe it's a connection for the engineer to check system pressure integrity.

The knob slackens and tightens.
So should I go and move it again or will it make no difference to my fire keep going off. Its as if its being starved of gas I think.

Just leave it screwed up ... sounds like your gas fire needs a service ... hope you have a Carbon Monoxide detector!

if it is a test point for a pressure/leak test on the system then just make sure its shut, check for any leaks with a little soapy water if you haven't got any leak detector fluid... we know it was ahut at the last meet because we checked for leaks..
sounds like the fault is most probably at the gas valve on fire if everything else works when fire shuts down..just check that's the case..

Can't remember ;)
Sandra make sure it's tight as others have said it's for testing / pressuring the system for gas leaks -

Oh jesus, I just went out to see if I could see my problem, turned the knob and the fire isnt going off but I will turn the knob tightvagain and get the fire looked at as advised. I suppose it could be the wind but its not that windy.

The "knob" in your photo is a cap on the test point, behind it is a non return valve. It is possible that the non return valve has got some dirt in it and is not sealing but when the cap is tight it will seal and hold back the working pressure of 30Mbar (around a half psi). If the valve itself is not sealing then loosening the cap will allow pressure to bleed of at the reg and cause low pressure to your fire and other appliances, when its tight they get full pressure. Hope this helps to clarify some details.

recently had to replace the gas regulator ( secumotion type ) ..... the symptoms were gas appliance would run at low flame but when an increase in demand was made ( turn flame up or turn heater control up ) the gas was cut off by the regulator.
changed regulator... all well.

Ok so there seems to be no pattern to this, fire going off and on again, sometimes lasts a few minutes and others more like seconds.
Any ideas? It is a new regulator so shouldnt be that ..i guess.

is it just affecting the fire and not any other appliance? if so it sounds like it " could be" the fire thermo couple that signals the gas valve that its alite:(

Is it windy where you are? Is the flue partially blocked \ being impacted by the wind?
Its not that windy but I get the full blast from the fields and the fire is facing towards the field. Too much of a slope to face the other way, besides im only outside the house., having withdrawal symptoms of not being away this weekend ;-)
