I'm in a quandary. I was caught speeding and have been given the 3 options.
Pay £100 fine and have my licence endorsed
driver awareness course and no endorsement
go to court
the awareness course has to be taken within 4 months
If I pay the £100 fine I have to send my licence off to them within 28 days of the offence
The problem is that I leave the country in my motorhome for 5 months this sunday. Any ideas.

Mmm if you want to go on Sunday, life's for living isn't it? Unless you are worried how many points you already may have, pay the fine and go.

I was stopped on the motorway for crossing chevrons from one lane to another ( never used to be any there)
We were going away the next day and had to take my licence in to the police station on a certain date, I needed my licence for the hire car whilst abroad.
Went to police station and explained and they gave me a new date for the day after we were due back.
Worth going in and explaining, they may let you change.

I would reschedule the holiday and get the course out of the way asap.
Insurance renewal will be higher on any policies you have when you declare a conviction for any points offence.

A letter to the fines office may get you an exemption to do the course after 5 months. Or even better, an email - consulting the paperwork right in front of me (as I to have to attend a naughty boys course) shows no phone number but there is an email address. Got to be worth a try! Or can they get you on a course before Sunday?

I reckon you might get lucky, they will probably want / need proof of your travel commitments for Sunday, but they quite possibly do not have a box to put you in for this

get something in writing confirming your plight, ask them what to do, adding that unless you have an answer by Friday there will nothing you can do till you get back

Had it arrived next Monday what would you have done then? there used to be a time limit for the charge to be 'accepted' in my younger days I talked / wrote letters to time out a couple of offences

Copper sat me in his car, flip chart of pics, 2 miles back showing lanes, 1 and a half miles back , showing lanes to be in, same at 1 mile and at half mile.
It was 2 years since the changes, prob 3 years since I had been along there, obviously I just followed my normal route and didn't look at signs.
No excuses, I should have been paying attention.

You are lucky you have been given the choice of the awareness course. I have been caught on several occasions over the years and not been given the choice.
I would opt for the awareness course over the points any day.

Don't know how many points you already have but I'd opt for the fine ,get it done and over with, you still have to pay the fine if you have the coarse , don't you, that's what I thought. You dont want it hanging over you while away, thing you've got to comeback to that.

I agree, However, there but for the Grace of YOUR god. Go thee. Do-sent take much and the "Wooden Tops" nowadays are worse than in my day. But then my last "speeding" was in 1983 (I think) Down hill to the traffic lights so instead of braking just took the foot off. "Smokey in the bushes" got me 34 in a 30 as I past the 30 sign!!!! (Bar-steward)!!! 3 points and 30Quid!!!

Getting There since 2013
What exactly where you doing? Was it a camera? Policeman with a speed gun or pull over? How fast where you going?

I only ask as if there was maybe a way of disputing it!

A friend of mine once said (because of inside information! ) that he would demand his day in court and he'd get a letter saying don't do it again (because of costs). But he could have been talking crap! ;)

The awareness course is for very specific speeds.
.
Not just over the limit.
Locally it's 35mph in a 30mph. ...up to 34 or over 35mph....no course option, exactly 35mph on the button.
Same applies at all speeds....posted speed plus 10% plus 2mph.

Locally they tell you when a place is available.
You have two options...
Attend or don't attend on the given date.

DO NOT take it to court.

Unless you have totally undisputable proof you were not speeding you will lose and the fine will reflect the costs involved taking it to court and you will still get points.
