Hi Folks,

Ref: Autotrail Imala 615

When draining water from the kitchen sink I am finding that some of the drained water is being forced back up through the shower drain. I think I understand the principle but is it normal or is there a problem?

Cheers,

Steve

I was wondering the same, test having emptied to verify, don't rely on the waste water tank gauge alone.

Defiantly not normal in my experience.
I think you have a plumbing issue or, as others have said, tank is full.
Is It new? If so let the dealer sort it. (y)

As your waste tank fills right to the top, your shower tray being lower than your sink and wash basin will gurgle and eventually fill. :D If what you describe happens with an empty tank then it does need investigating.

nowhere near long enough
Now this does not surprise me as we had a new Bailey caravan that did just the same, it was however easy to investigate on a caravan as all the pipes were exposed underneath. Bailey appear to live under the idea that water can run up hill.

The answer is no it is not normal and does need investigating

OK guys thanks for the replies. Waste tank fully drained and happened the first time the sink was emptied so it appears I have a problem. Will report to dealer. Cheers, Steve

Was you level, ours sometimes does it if we are rear up, as the pipes join somewhere and they can't drain to the tank at the back

Is your van the right way up?

Drains rely on gravity. If you park your van on its roof, you will always get grey water coming back out of your drains!:)

Does the shower drain ok when you use it ? Does the regurgitated water that appears in the shower eventually drain away ? If it does, it's probably trapping air in the system, just leave the plug in the shower when you empty the sink.

Haven't used the shower yet but I can try filling the tray to see what happens. It is not a big deal but I just don't want excess water going where it shouldn't be if you know what I mean.

Are you here or in the southern hemisphere? I hear that British MoHo's are not designed for the anticlockwise drain gurgle of those far away places...:giggler:
Well that shouldn't be a problem because I fitted an automatic water reverse-rotation device for such instances. Got it on the same shelf as the left handed screwdriver, elbow grease and Tartan paint(y)

.....also we always travel with the plugs fitted in the sinks and shower, as even though they're fitted with miniature U bends, you can still get the heady waft of your waste tank percolating through the van.

same as jockaneezer, the only time we remove our shower plugs (we have 2) is to use the shower, then when tray is dry we push back down. That might just solve your problem (y)

I had the same issue with my panel van where I found the sink & shower drain pipes were T-eed together under the van just before entry to the waste tank. The solution was to remove the T and run them separately into the tank...
