We're due to get our first motorhome in a couple of weeks so I've been ringing round for insurance.
I've got these three quotes. All provide very similar levels of cover so do I just go with the cheapest or is there other things to consider ?

A I B £328
Comfort £346
Safeguard £337

What are your thoughts please.

On our 2nd MH now a AutoTrail Savannah which we're absolutely delighted with
we got a very competitive quote from Staveley Head almost 30% cheaper than the 3 companies you have used as we did too-Might be worth a look!
All very similar levels of cover too

Staveley Head quoted £212 but they can't provide breakdown cover so worked out dearer in the long run.

Safeguard are an excellent company - tell them what your other quotes are and I almost guarantee they will lower their quote to at least match. We called them out twice last summer to very isolated areas and they gave tremendous service.

On and off for many years.
Check who the underwriters are - if you find they are the same then go for the cheapest. Otherwise ask for other people's experiences.

Our first year we insured with ERS via AIB. This year still using AIB as the broker as they have given us good service and no hassle.

Think you would get breakdown from green flag for less than £100 if you shop around the cash back places , so that would bring you down to less than £300

Adrian flux also do breakdown insurance with their policy's been with them years ..........always see if I can beat price with other companys but never have, been with them years. Find it odd that we all swear by various companys but when I have tried always get a daft figure?

If you read some previous posts ref insurance and Safeguard you will see they always overquote..... I was with them for 10 years then moved away for 2 years, this year asked them for a quote and it was £499 !!!! compared to £350 elsewhere... So I went back to them and got it down to £299.... You need to work on them.. Good luck..

Comfort and Safeguard both have proper Motorhome policies (don't know about ABI), a lot of companies will sell you a car policy or a slightly modified car policy. If you want to be covered for all risks in a Motorhome it is best to take out a proper Motorhome policy.

Not long enough!
Renewed with AIB , same price as last year, £275ish including breakdown, happy with that.

One thing, try to be accurate with your mileage it brings the price down a fair bit(y)

Adrian Flux for me, have used the breakdown cover once and the service was great.
That's when you find out how good your cover is!

Rang Adrian Flux and they quoted £502.
Saga couldn't quote because of storage location.
I'll ring Safeguard back on Monday and see if they can bend a bit on price.
Thanks for the replies.

When I did our insurance I went to one of those comparison websites, can't remember which one it was now, I think it may have been go compare?
Anyway, I got loads of quotes up, and it showed in a grid what was covered, very simple to use. Also, I had a few phone calls from agents trying to get my business (I did tick the box saying that they could). A lot of these reduced the initial quote after chatting to them. Anyway ultimately we went with Comfort since they covered everything I needed. The European cover as standard was the winner for them in my case.

If you say 10k per year & only do 2k , why can't you carry it over ? :)

Here they are starting to ask now, no idea why, as until you get over 35k kms/year the price doesn't change ?

We asked Comfort about restricted mileage and they told us it would make no difference to the quote. We have unlimited mileage on our FT policy.

Hmmm?
Doing the same ring around for my first MH insurance...
Get a few online quotes. All pretty as expected.
Staveley Head look good at £202 + standalone breakdown (RAC not cheapest but does include CC&C membership for £111)

So;
Have to ring Safeguard for quote - come up with £408 !!! How does that sound?
Awful says I. Best so far is just over £300.
Let me see what I can do says she.
I can do it for £299

So Safeguard quotes best price, is a recommended company... yet I strongly disapprove on their over quoting business model.
If it hadn't been for this thread I could be paying 25% (£100) more than I needed.
For the couple of extra quid I'm tempted to go with Staveley Head & shop around for breakdown cover.

I went with AIB last year as they undercut Comfort by about £30 to get the business, I imagine that included a Funster discount. As they both use Aviva and cover was identical it seemed rude not to. I'll check all options again this year as Comfort were always the cheapest for me.
