Following on from previous posts about wing mirrors for the Ducato, I damaged the casing on the passenger side long-arm mirror of a rental motorhome whilst on a charity bike ride. As this is electrically heated, motorised and houses the radio antennae, the replacement cost was £385 + VAT (I had no choice about where they sourced it) which more or less wiped out any money raised.
Anyway, I digress. When replacement mirror glass alone costs £36, is there a 'salvage' market for components, or the unit as a whole as spares/repair?

Yes I would say so. Apparently the casing is repairable although I have not done it myself. New outer skins are on ebay.
Also geniune long arm ducato units can be found for £169

When I had an alteracation with a Frenchman I was lucky enough to gaffer tape it back together and when I got home ordered a new on on fleebay but of course didn't have antenna in it so I managed to take apart and fit old antenna with a bit of hassle all works ok now and it did save me a bit of dosh and give me high blood pressure fitting it.i did keep the bits for spares just in case.

Had I owned the vehicle I would have been able to live with the minor cosmetic damage (about 5 sq cm of plastic casing broken off). Unfortunately the hire company were pretty sharp in ordering from a local dealer and charging me £385+VAT before I could present them with a quote from Fiat Commercial for £306 INC VAT. Mighty aggravated by the whole thing...

A bit late but if collision damage waver is ever offered, take it.

The option was available, and that will haunt me forever!! However, before we left we asked how much a wing mirror (as most commonly damaged part) would be, and were told 'about £250'. Of course, this turned out to be the drivers side; 'oh no, the passenger side is going to be more, it has an integral antennae'.... Thanks SW Motorhomes...

Yes it's hard to swallow when you know you've been shafted but what comes around goes around. We always remember our regrets but it's not for dwelling on it is so it won't happen again.

Have you got a picture of the damage? Lots of us use mirror guards that would cover a lot of mishaps so it could well fetch a few bob.
No good to me as mine is left hand drive and the arms are angled differently.

My Ducato is 11 years old and I need a new black casing for the back of the passenger mirror it is also LHD. My mirrors look much more like truck mirrors though, plain black and rectangular? Is it an age thing and could I get a replacement from a truck salvager?
