We are just packing up to head (back) over to the UK in 2 weeks to purchase a motor home and embark on the first of many 3-6 month tours of EU and UK over the next 5 years!

Insurance is going to be our major challenge. We have UK passports and can show UK "residence" but currently only have Australian drivers licences. We are trying to avoid Downunder Insurance, but they seem to be the only retail option.

I thought I'd consult the brains trust to see if anyone can recommend an Insurance Broker for UK MH insurance??

Try Comfort insurance, their banner top right corner. We insured with them, very good service.

Good luck with the move, there will be many views on your OP. For us and fwiw Safeguard fits our requirement and we like the knowledge that the underwriter is ALLIANZ. Many others find Safeguard expensive, so did we until we realised that Europe wide recovery is built into the policy. Once we had that knowledge and when we put the remainder to the calculator test there was little to chose between any of them............Previously we insured with SAGA whose first year quote was good for the cover given. In year 2 though the quote had mysteriously increased by near on 20%.....this was due, according to the agent 'to market forces beyond their control'. Once we'd dried the tears we moved to Safeguard and our premium has reduced in 2 of the last 3 years.

Thanks for the first prompt suggestions...our problem will be lack of UK drivers licence (we have Australian) for insurance purposes. We have documentation from our Aussie insurers showing no claims for over 15 years.

We've insured ours through Advance Insurance brokers, my husband has found them very helpful. 01793 522542. Might be worth a try.

If you came over and hired a MH surely you would get insurance for that? so why not if you buy one?

Hello Brendon & Lorna,
We live in Perth Western Aust. and have owned a motorhome in the UK for the last 5 years. Our Mathilde is stored in secure undercover storage with cctv in Somerset and we travel to the UK each year and use Mathilde for about 3 months, in Europe and UK. With our Aust. drivers licences, the only insurance we have managed to source is Downunder..very expensive. Every insurance company we have contacted all say you need to be resident....address and also driver's licences. If you come up with something different, we would be very interested.

just nonsense really & a way to keep premiums high.
A bit like Spanish insurers charging Holiday home owners sky high premiums because they aren't " Resident " ?

Thanks Margie & Mark, yes all roads seem to lead to Downunder :-( Friends of our doing the same (also from P-Town) managed to get cover from Luke Redpath/Vantage Insurance once they had MH experience in UK/EU ;-)
