Hi guys
Anyone got a rough estimate on the insurance cost for an 80k mh ? Just trying to get an idea on costs, I've full no claims on my car and motorcycle.

As far as I know, if you still using the no claims on the car or motorcycle, you can't use it on the MH, so you start with no discount for no claims..

There are many variables but as a ball park figure I would say about £500-600 if they count your no claims, which they probably won't unfortunately and £aargh!! if they don't.

A few hundred pounds. Impossible to be more accurate as there are too many variables, address, previous claims history, age, how long you are going to use it overseas, etc.
But the value of the vehicle is only part of it. For example the cost of insurance for an £80k MH won't be twice the price of a £40k one.

Extend digit, tap them phone buttons and ask - more than one company of course! :)

You're right, you start from scratch again

More than toes wet now!
You can't normally use one no claims discount on more than one vehicle however a number of insurers will take into account and offer a "zero no claims discount" similar to the value of the ncd if you discuss with them.

On our 2nd MH now a AutoTrail Savannah which we're absolutely delighted with
I don't think they all do. Hence my advice to ring round.
Agreed I been getting quotes and some do take into account my 9 years no claims on my car

Since 2015.......
Give the CC a try for insurance. They gave me 4 years introductory no claims bonus, and they were the cheapest for me....
And no big premium windscreen cover which impressed me.

same here.. but it made little difference to the quotes..

The four quotes I had were all within a few pounds of each other, irrespective of NCD , ..

seems odd, but I was told that motorhome policies don't accrue NCD

I think you will find that most motorhome policies don't accrue NCD, and not very many insurers will offer any sort of intro discount.

You will probably also find that quite a lot of insurers will insist on at least a Thatcham cat 1 alarm, and many will insist on a Tracker too if the vehicle value exceeds £50k or refuse to offer terms.

Our MH is insured for £42.5k and I had full no claims on both cars. Caravan Guard were cheapest quote from a selection including both caravan and camping clubs. Our premium is £334.50p including legal expenses, home and foreign travel breakdown and recovery service. MH is alarmed and kept by our house behind locked gates. They gave us some introductory no claims discount so certainly worth getting a quote from them. We do live in a low crime area.

The other factor is how much mileage you want to declare that you will do in a year. I seem to remember that I declared 6k per annum.

thanks guys for the reply , Kessy and I are heading off to the dusseldorf show and intend placing an order on a MH, we were concerned that an 80k MH would be around a couple of grand to insure

Not unless you have a really bad claims record! Not more than a quarter of that figure I would hope, at the most. But many factors involved so I suggest calling someone just to be sure you can get cover before placing an order, then search around.
