Has anyone down rated their motorhome (1 Viewer)

As is the norm we up-rated our van from 3500 Kg to 3850 Kg but now we are moving to France it seems advantages to put it back to 3500Kg and leave all the junk at our French cottage instead of dragging it around with us.

I believe it is just a paper excercise but has anyone done it and got any advice please

Not done it but i believe you simply amend the V5 with the new lower weight and return, with a covering letter, to DVSA for them to lose, forget, return unaltered. (Delete as appropriate).

Haven't done it, but considering.
I'm assuming this applies to mohos as well as lorries - perhaps somebody can confirm (or otherwise!)

Re-reading the intro to the above, it does refer to commercial vehicles, so maybe doesn't apply to MHs.

Correct....SVTech can provide everything needed, at a price, but they cant communicate with DVSA on your behalf.

Why do want to increase your ROADTAX to £230 I am quite happy paying £165 instead of £230 especially as you have to pay to to pay more. No brainer really If it on you driving licence then the PHGV is better. Until you get to 70 that is.

Cos in France it is VERY differnet and that is where monsieur Laneside is heading

Just a thought... If laneside is moving to France, doesn't the Moho have to be re-registered there? If so, could the weight change be done then?

I believe it is actually easier to do it in the UK than in France from what I understand
The French will take the details as they exist and register the vehicle accordingly

Sorry didn't take the time to read the other answers, but you should be able to do this especially in your area where the DREAL is cooler! Ask Ken he will tell you about DREAL in Brive, but it should not be a prob to go back to 3,5t

DREAL were not involved in mine. As it is 3.5 tonnes or under and I had a certificate of conformity.
Purely a paper exercise at the Prefecture.
Took all of 10 minutes!
Had the new plates withim 20 minutes.

Yes , but to change the papers saying it is 3,5t as Alan would like it, it has to go through DREAL which is the only one allowed to change this. It won't take long though.
A simple appointment , and ...done! No reason why they would say no, people usually ask for more than the original weight.
Anyway, best is to ask the local prefecture to see what has to be done.
