Got 3 nights to spare before catching Le Shuttle back to Blighty, can anyone recommend somewhere interesting to visit in Belgium.

We quite enjoyed a visit to Ghent a few years back, some prefer it to Brugge.

Thanks, did Ghent on the train from Brugge so that's ticked.

Is it the right time of year for the bulb fields?

Any more suggestions welcomed

Checked the web site, they say end of March to mid May but they do say mid April is best (y)

The train will also take you to Brussels where there are a few places of interest, the Grand Place and the Manikin du Pis for starters. If the weather is good enough for a day on the beach Middlekerke is the place to go.

OK so Ghent is out. How about Westende (the western end of Middlekirke). There's an aire there and a good car park by the beach (no overnighting allowed these days I think). There's a good tram service up the coast to Ostende too. The main campsite is called Kompass and that's where you pay for the 'aire' as well - see Broken Link Removed

I heard not one but two jokes about Belgium this week.

1. The national motto of Belgium is: "Unity makes Strength". This in a country comprised of two groups who won't speak to each other.
2. Belgium is a such an attractive country they decided to hold WW1 there.

But I have been to Belgium and stayed there, having driven through it dozens of times and it does indeed have places worth visiting. It isn't all chocolate and detectives.
