Has anyone been to Aldeburgh recently? We intend to take the van out tomorrow for a run prior to heading to Spain early next month. My concerns are, are motorhomes allowed in the centre and is there suitable parking? I have not been there for years - hoping for the best fish and chips around. Hope all is ok for my visit and lunch!
Thank you
Colin & Liz

We have been to Aldeburgh for day trips a couple of times in the van. You can park all day for about £3 in the beach-side car park, near the famous 'shell' sculpture. The parking sign specifically says motorhomes are allowed, 10 minute walk into town.

If you want somewhere nice for lunch I can recommend the White Lion Hotel, on your walk into town.

If you want to stay in your van you could try Broken Link Removedcs at Blaxhall about 7 miles away.

We were there last week and had fish and chips in a bag still very nice. We stayed at Sizewell overnight The Vulcan Arms. You can still park both ends of Aldeburgh town but as jim says not on the sea wall.

maybe we got them as 're heats' .. and the fish wasn't fresh.. won't try again..

next time you are passing, if you want good fish n chips try the new chippie in Woodbridge.. it's near the Crown hotel ..

Some great tips. Will definitely try a Suffolk seaside/fish and chips combo weekend in the very near future. (y)
Went to Bury St Edmunds yesterday (first time) to sign the (finance) paperwork for the van - not quite so exciting. :D

If you are not familiar with this area then the coastal regions between the river Deben and Southwold is very nice. ScotJimland is a lucky feller living bang in the middle of it.(y)

Getting better
Hi We were there in the van a couple of weeks ago, no problems with access or parking. we parked for free for a few hours on the unmade road at the southern end of the high street, it was a Monday though.
Nice place to visit with lots of choices for lunch and a Southwold brewery shop full of lots of goodies.

There are two fish and chip shops in Aldeburgh. The one at the far end of the high st next to the pub is best, but be prepared to queue.
Parking along the beach is plentiful ( turn left when in Aldeburgh), and if you can find a place, the high street is OK as well.

If you want a change then Dunwich has fish and chips on the beach with a huge free car park. Then leave your van there and take a lovely walk along the beach into Southwold for a pint, will help your digestion. (y)

We must stop sharing these little jewels Jim........:)

yes.. the Suffolk coast it a jewel all right.. largely unspoiled, and fortunately by-passed by the majority as the dash up the A12 to the Norfolk coast ..and the Broads

when we lived in Essex we spend many weekends exploring the Suffolk coast.. never dreaming that one day we would be fortunate enough to live here.
