Fiat wheels......change from 15inch to 16 inch? (1 Viewer)

Whilst researching new tyres for my van I have been advised that the 15inch wheels are 'out dated' and that more choice is available for 16 inch wheels.

Has anyone ever changed their wheels from 15 to 16 ? Any reasons why it can not be done? After all the Fiat is the same as the Peugeot and Citroen and they have 16 inch wheels.

Also (if the price is right) I could then consider a 'summer' set and a 'winter' set.........

With all this in mind what size tyres are fitted to the 16 inch wheels on Peugeot or Citroen based motorhomes?

I know nowt about Fiat/Citroen wheels and tyres etc. but generally when changing wheels and tyre sizes you need to be aware of the changes needed to your speedo & odometer and your insurances.
No doubt someone will be along soon with the full sp on Fiat etc.

Interesting question which had also occurred to me. My van is on the Alco 'light' chassis which seems to have 15" wheels as standard. However the same model on the 'heavy' version of the chassis has 16", perhaps to accommodate tyres with a higher load rating for the increased GVW.

If it is anything like our Fiat it will probably make the speedo nearer to accurate, it is so far out I have always thought it should have 16" wheels on and there is lots of wheel arch space to accommodate them.

15's have a 118 bolt circle for one thing
16's are 130
Yes it is all about load, 16" tyres have a higher load index rating
Brakes are probably beefier too

Hi on the last van the 5th gear ration was /or seemed to be wrong Halden Hill 5th gear 1/2 loaded!(was like driving in 4th everywhere.)
so after exploring various options ,getting correct ratio was a nightmare simple solution swapped to 16" Alloy wheels (van rated )sorted and on checking speedo against gps was mush closer to the norm mpg improved significantly .
Fitted straight on .

@Techno100 Ah, do you mean the diameter of the circle is different on the 'stock' steel wheels? Therefore I assume a straight swop is not possible.....( I don't want alloys )

Makes no difference whether alloy or steel 118mm is 118mm and 130 is 130

I have also 15inch wheels on my fiat based van and speedo is out by about 8km/h when travelling at 90km/h compared to the sat nav, and as above the wheel arches could accommodate larger tyres.

The heavier chassis Fiat's have 16" with PCD 130, as opposed to PCD 118 (distance from wheel stud to wheel stud is larger.

However, when I was looking for a steel spare wheel PCD130 16" I kept finding PCD118 16" wheels so I think they must be fairly common.
