I would like to get opinions on the idea of fitting a 2+1 battery change over switch to my leisure batteries. My thoughts are as follows.

1 Current flow from a solar regulator into a part charged battery is higher than into a more fully charged battery so more power is transferred.

2 Using a battery change over switch I could have battery 1 in service and battery 2 being charged.

3 I would also need a change over switch in the output from the regulator so that it charged the battery not in service.

Would there be a power gain using this system?

IMHO there is little to gain in your position but I would charge the battery in service with a relay that sends surplus charge to the second battery. CBE CSB2 relay will transfer surplus charge after 13.6 volts is sensed.
If you go out for the day what you propose will only charge one battery.
I don't think it is worth the expense with only two batteries.

When on mains then off course select batteries 1+2 with the switch

No power gain if you have 200A/H of batteries doesn't matter if they are separate or in parallel it's still 200A/H of battery power. It seems a lot of hassle for no gain & the lightly-hood of completely flattening a battery & damaging it is higher.

I use a battery selector but a very different installation.

Battery bank one up front is 230ah and used to feed the hab 12 volts only, this can be charged by mains charger, BtoB and overflow charge from 300watt solar on battery bank two.

Battery bank two is 500ah and used only for supplying 2000/4000 pure sine UPS and supplies all my 230 volt outlets. This is charged by 300 watt solar or 3 stage UPS charger.

The selector switch allows banks to combine or to change the choice of banks that feed the hab 12 volts.

I did use a CBE CSB2 originally to transfer surplus solar charge but recently changed this to a Sterling unit as a trial.

EDIT UPS also feeds my 230 volt powered 4.5 metre Omnistor awning.(grey cable)

When I said power gain I was referring to "available" power 200 a/h would be the maximum when both batteries are fully charged this obviously drops as they are used so the available power at any point in times is between 0 and 200 a/h

Lots more things to go wrong and no gain. Deeper cycling of individual battery, not good. You forget to switch, disastrous.

Let the regulators do what they were designed to do.

Nice system Techno now that's what I call a well thought out installation.
