Sorry for the confusion, posted Calais in the title earlier and now can't edit it.

Sooooo .....

We're catching the 0600 or earlier but arriving about 1 in the morning. Are we okay to kip in the back after we've checked in and are we able to check in that time of night ? Thanks.

I think they offer you the next available train if you arrive early, which may mean extra cost but not at that time of night. There's an automatic check-in, I don't think I've ever seen people about there.
What we have done on several occasions is to take the first available night crossing, often around 2:00/3:00 am and then stay on the aire at Cite Europe.
Its very plain, just a car park but we've always found it convenient and quiet and then we can make an early start onto the French motorway system in whichever direction. Not everyone likes it and you'll find lots of different opinions on other threads.

.

What happens if I arrive early or late?

  • If you arrive within 2 hours either side of your reserved time you will be offered a space, on the next departure with availability without charge. The maximum check-in allowed is 2 hours so you cannot be earlier than that without accepting an earlier departure when available. If you are more than 2 hours late but still within the validity of your ticket you will be allocated a space but there may be a charge if the tariff for that time is higher.

Why not contact Eurotunnel and change your booking to an earlier one? If you're sure you'll be there around 1am then book on t0 one around that time - that would give you a leeway of 11pm - 3am. Hopefully there won't be a charge.

We do this twice a year, arriving at Euro tunnel at Dover at about 1.00am and catching the early crossing at approx 6.00am and have ALWAYS slept in the car park. Never been approached by any member of staff. Enjoy your trip.

On another forum, guy just said he does it all the time, as long as happy to accept an earlier train if offered, they don't observe the 2 hr check in. Last time he did it was in the summer. Think we'll probably risk it. Worse comes to worse there's bound to be a little layby somewhere .............. hopefully :/

They observe the two hour limit by offering the earlier train. If you are offered one it will be within two hours of the time you check in.
