Hi All,

We have just had the 'van uprated as far as MGW is concerned.
Whilst the present tyres are within the Max Load for the 'van, I've just been playing around on the 'puter and discovered that IF??? I fitted 225 instead of the present 215's I could uprate the load index on the tyres from 109/107 to 112.

Does anyone out there know if the 225's will fit on the wheels of a Ducato X244 currently fitted with 215 x 70 x R15(circa 2005)

Thank you in advance

I assume that you will need to go for 225 x 75 x R15 to give a similar tyre circumference. I can not help regards the rim size being suitable for the slightly wider tyre.

I wasn't looking at 75's but, to keep the 'Aspect' right, you are in fact correct.
At least 225 x 75x R15's do exist!

I believe such a change would be notifiable to your insurers?

Actually 65% would be nearer the mark, but leaving the profile at 70 the difference in wheel diameter is only 2% and would make the over reading Fiat speedo more accurate.:D
Shouldn't any problems with fit, they will fit the same wheels and the increase in size is only 10mm on the width and 14 mm on the diameter so should be any problems with body clearance.

As the speedo will be currently over registering, indicated 60mph is in reality about 55mph the extra circumference will serve to reduce the error, so there should be no issues in that area.

Know we're going down a similiar route(y)
Not sure if any help or not ? We currently have 215/70R15 109 on our X250 (c2007) and vtech suggested we go for 225/70R15 112 on our next change. Only been on a year so not sure when that will be :)

Thanks for the replies.
Wildge, from past postings you and I would seem to be following parallel universes.
My tyres have only had one long journey to Spain in them so I'm again in the same boat as you.
At least I don't HAVE to change the tyres. More a case of what if.
As a result of the Audi going belly up today with what might be an Ouch!!! job, it might be later than sooner for the tyres.
But thank you all.

Probably a stupid question. Some time back I changed my 215/70 R15 tyres to 225/70 R15's to get a higher load rating in VTech up plate exercise. At the time I did not change my spare, which has a completely unused 215/70 tyre. I suppose I have to bite the bullet and change it, too. But could I use it as a short term get you home fix in the event of a puncture? What would be the effect of mixed tyre sizes on the same axle?

When you consider most cars have a wheelbarrow wheel (space saver) as a spare I can't see any difference.
They look more akin to a motorbike tyre.
Maybe your insurers think different though.

I doubt if you would notice any difference in handling but if you are making use of your uprated axle load you could be overloading the type. Providing you take it easy should get you home without any problems.

Space saver spare wheels are a totally different beast, the tyres are made with a very soft compound so that the grip levels are similar to the tyre on the other end of the axle. That is also why they are limited to 50mph & more importantly 50 miles, travel much further and you will soon be down to the canvas.
IMO a waste of time, get a flat 150 miles from home in the evening there is no way a Space saver will get you home.

Today I was at my friendly tyrefitters discussing prices of some new boots. Just an age thing ! Van has factory fitted (2008) Continental Vanco 8's, the new replacement equivalents we felt was the Vanco 100's.

There is no sign of cracking, bulges, spun on wheel balancer and all spot on, only done 13K, I just have a morbid fear of a blowout on a first Euro tour this May and I have a buyer for them ;)

We considered a belt and braces upgrade to Vanco Campers. Not a huge price differential. Anyway as a compromise we have decided on uprating (actually a Peugeot standard fitting option) to go for Vanco 100 225 x 70 x 15's rather than the 215's.
As previously posted you get an uprated "loading" tyre (stronger ?) for £1 more. Unless you experts convince me otherwise
