hi,

We are planning on a "quickie" to the south of France for a week, commencing 21st Feb.

We are guessing around Montpellier and the Camargue, any ideas, experiences, and place to stay will be appreciated.

As always,

THANKS

I think you could get a bit further than Montpellier in two weeks. I got to southern Spain in 3 days last year!!

I went to a beekeeping exhibition in Montpellier once, the centre of the town is very pleasant if you have time to visit it. There is an old quarter, the haunt of the many students who live in the city, which has some nice bars etc. Narrow streets, cobblestones, that sort of thing.

In our experience (and it is only ours) the centre of Montpellier is definitely not motorhome friendly! Narrow lanes with very high kerbs, trams have priority everywhere. We tried to drive into the park and ride, came up against a barrier that wouldn't let us through and had to reverse back out with a tram chasing us all the way! I've wanted to see Montpellier for years but the novelty has now worn off - same goes for Pisa, but that's another story!

If you haven't seen it, the Pont du Gard is one of the wonders of Roman engineering. Worth doing a circuit round past Nimes to see it. The trip back via Uzès and across the high limestone plateau of the Gard is a wonderful trip in our view. There is a good aire at Méjannes-le-Clap in the corner of a large parking area, from which there are great walks or bike rides.

Narbonne is lovely, as is Aigues Morte. Carcassone is nice but quite commercialised and maybe too far away for you. You will get loads of ideas if you keep reading this thread! (y)

The Pont du Gard is magnificent as JeanLuc says, as is the amphitheatre in Nimes itself.

We tugged down to Sicily in 2013, never again. Sorry but IMO you can stick Italy/Sicily where the sun don't shine!

We drove MH down to Amalfi Coast last year. It was challenging, particularly Amalfi coast road, and I would only recommend motorways in Italy, nothing less, all other roads are horrendous, but the country and the people we found were lovely.

Hi,
enjoy, we leave for 2 weeks in the south of France in 2 weeks time. Had excellent weather last year at the same time, hope it's as good this year.
Lee.
