Just a few queries concerning the X250 or x290 PVC's bed layouts.

I'm 5ft9in or so. Is sleeping across the width of the van feasible? I'm not keen on my feet and head pressing on the foot and head of the bed - in this case it would be a cold wall.

The RIB beds seem to be a little on the hard side according to various reviews, and don't look too flat. Comfortable?

What sort of mpg would you get with steady touring in France at say 65mph, less on normal country roads (55mph), or generally overall. Which engine is best?

Reversing OK on latest versions? It's a little bit early to tell, I suspect.

Can't answer the bed question, such a personal issue you can but try them out at a dealer or show. Wear clean socks with any holes well darned is all I can suggest!

As for mpg our 3 litre with comfortmatic gives a pretty consistent 27mpg - the smaller engines are a bit more frugal but not I think by much. Treat claims of much more than 30mpg with lots of salt!

Ours is the Peugeot with the 2.2 150 engine, the same as in a transit. Don't think this engine ever did have reversing problems, but mine doesn't. Performs very well, averages about 30.

Can't answer the bed question, ours has lengthwise beds, not width, but they are comfortable.

We have a transverse bed which is 6 ft long and there are no cold walls if it is finished off properly. I put carpet on the wall where the feet go and also fitted an 8 inch thick memory foam mattress.
This all makes it very comfortable and we are in Spain for 5 months this winter .
As to mileage we get around 35 mpg from the 100 BHP 2.2 Boxer

Hi Dorwyn, we have a 2012 (built late 2011) Autocruise Accent PVC on a Fiat X250 base (5.99m) with a 2.3 engine. It has a transverse rear bed which measures exactly the same as a standard 'domestic' double - whilst we are happy with it (hubby is about 5'9") it really depends on how you sleep - if you're a tummy layer you'll need it a bit longer than a back layer - so only trying them out for size will tell you if they re okay for you. they usually have a headboard an sometimes a kick board too to prevent you touching a cold wall. We use a memory foam topper on ours and it is very comfortable.

We are getting around 29-30mpg overall, so on a run and not going silly with the speed it does go up to 34mpg (... based on measure mileage/fuel NOT the on-board computer!) but obviously that is countered by getting stuck in traffic or general tootling round town, villages, or going up mountains!

Nige is 6ft 3" and we have a pvc with bed across the middle, he can't sleep with his legs fully stretched out, but is learning to cope bending his knees. It gives us the best option on space in the van :D

just sold a VW crafter pvc, had a transverse rear bed, it was only 5 foot 6 " wide but was ok for me as I am just that size and usually sleep on my side with knees bent as I find this better for me as my ribs still hurt after a motorcycle accident years ago.

Like MinxyGirl I also have an Autocruise but mine is the Alto with the french bed. I am far more comfortable in this bed but did add a memory foam topper when first bought. This was more to act as a mattress protector.

Hi the X250 is 6 ft 2 ins wide inside -as such it's the widest van /s made -I have seen where some makers cut indents into the side boarding to gain a extra couple of ins for the bed width --try asking RalphandBev for exact internal measurement across the van they are just converting a new van and he is ready for internal boards now (y)
Just for info -On Sunday I got into sons new ugly shaped transit and was really disappointed to find it was still only the same size as the older model it replaces with a couple of ins wider at the top--- 5'9" wide at bottom and 5'1" at top once boarded onto ribs -They have also improved internal height to 6'7"

We have a 2014 x250 boxer with fixed transverse bed, I am 6ft and sleep comfortably. The best purchase we have made for the van is a Froli bed system.

I've done that. But is the practical experience I was after, you can't spend the night in the dealer's showroom!

i built ours band its exactly 6 foot from ply lining to ply lining if you needed more you could gain about 4 inches by going into the void at either end provided the bed was above the longitudal beam thats part of the structure and still get insulation between you and the side of the van
