Hi,

I hope some funsters can help, the Mrs and I are going to Glastonbury, he had tickets two years ago but I hate the rolling stones, always been a Beatles boy! We cancelled and didn't go!

This year, I am told "we are going", tickets booked, balance due at Easter.

What is the motorhome field like? Water, waste water toilet emptying etc any tips?

Also Mrs D likes her China plates and real wine glasses when away in the van, how strict is the no glass rule and the checking? We don't want to have things confiscated or be refused entry!

Advice from past glasto motorhomes much appreciated.

thanks!

It's a field.
It isn't a rally, nobody is marshalling it. The people in hi vis are kids doing it for free entry to the festival.
It isn't particularly level.
If you're more than 6 feet in any direction from the next van you're very lucky.
Be prepared to walk quite a long way to empty your toilet and to get fresh water.
If your grey needs emptying then straight onto the grass but remember you need to be able to drive off so don't do it unless you really have to until you're ready to leave.
They may well do a cursory check for glass in your van so if you have any hide it in the garage or wardrobe or something. It will only be confiscated, you won't be refused entry. Don't even try and take any into the festival site.
Don't take food, just fill your fridge with cider (y)

Don't forget to buy the campervan field ticket when you pay your balance (y) At present you don't have access to the field.

If we get lucky in the resale we'll see you at the cider bus (y)

Oh yes.
When you're inside hand cleansing gel is the most important thing to have and you will be forever thankful that you have a toilet in your MH.
Once you're parked up your van is only really for sleeping. There is so much to see and do that you won't want to be in the van much.
The best breakfast in the world anywhere ever is halfway up the hill on the left in the Greenpeace area (y)

How often do you have the 9 metre measure out? I wasn't knocking what they and you do just pointing out that it isn't remotely like a rally.

Thanks gents, we plan to behave ourselves and not get into trouble with security! I was told that toilet emptying was horrendous, bit like qattermass, if you are old enough to remember that?

I was contemplating buying a spare cassette, will buy sanitising gel in bulk!

Mrs D likes her own toilet so we will try to use the site toilets as little as possible, not so bad for us gents perhaps?

Will take beer and wine in plastic containers!

Really looking forward to it! Still hoping Fleetwood Mac turn up!

Thanks for your help!

Compared to the long drops by Saturday lunchtime cassette emptying is positively luxurious (y)

I'm a local too and I'd have loved to see the Stones!! Ha ho wouldn't do to all be the same. We watch it on TV, but can hear it from the front door. Mostly the headline band last thing at night are the ones we can pick out - Basement Jacks were I think the loudest recently.

If you want to be near the gate you should arrive on Tuesday (this is for East campervan fields).

Toilet emptying isn't that bad.

Queues for water can be very long and pressure low. Arrive with a full tank.

The great thing is that you can ignore the big stages and still have the best festival experience ever. The last time we were there I think we watched the Stones and Kenny Rogers on the main stage and didn't go near it for the rest of the week.

I was quite near the front. You didn't miss much really. Bill Wyman's Rythmn Kings in the Acoustic Tent were lot better.
Even so, I'd like the chance to see them while ... , you know. I used to sit outside the Railway Hotel in Richmond when they were in residence there, just to listen (for free!). I did see Brian Jones and Mick Jagger at their second ever performance with Cyril Davis at the White Hart (I think) Acton, but never saw a live show of the Stones. Unless you count the Hyde Park free festival but couldn't see or hear much. But I did see Robert Plant at Glastonbury Abbey last year, whichwas a great show.

We'll be there ...East Campervan fields Tuesday morning - 9th time. Spare toilet cassette, spare leisure battery, extra levelling blocks, and all the other paraphernalia! Just need dry weather to get set up, and dry to get out. Hope we don't have the 5hr queue of last year ......
