ok, planning to retire at the end of the year. So far when going to France for the odd couple of weeks leave the dog has gone into kennels. Yes I know a) expensive b) would like to take her with us.

Herein lies the problem ok with concept of pet passport etc but how do you get the dog (small working cocker) on a scooter for the odd trip out sight seeing.

No I'm (we're) not mad! Just like having a dog about the place.

Plan to do Scotland next spring (2016) so scooter will be a must for exploring as the kon-tiki can be a bit of a b to park on times.

And so any ideas how to carry a small dog on a scooter safely?

On push bikes dogs are often carried in a trailer designed for children. Might be something similar available for a M/C but storing it could be fun.

Or get a sidecar!

Thanks. Had crossed my mind but the scooter fits nicely in the garage, side car as well couldn't, ditto trailer unless we use a towbar mounted rack for the scooter. That pushes the rear axle within 150kg of max load and limit clothes/food/water/wine and beer capability.

Had thought of one of those front mounted baby slings but not tried one

Contact Dizzydd she has a purpose built seat, with harnesses etc, on the front of her bike

If I really had to do it I would use a trailer behind the scoot.

Dog on-board the scoot would be too dangerous if it tried moving around....even in a small cage on a rack.

Plus the dog can't tell you if it's scared shitless.

Put a rack on the back of the scooter, put a large top box on the rack ,cut a hole large enough for the dog to poke it,s head out , buy some googles for the dog

As I said earlier....moving load causes instability....especially high up on a rack.

I've seen the pics of similar and have a top box fitted, perhaps the answer is to buy a second and cut a hole as suggested. If it was a conventional MB then a tank mounted carrier way be possible

Papajohns comment may also be true until tried that the dog might not take to it.

It's ok posting pics but all these bikes are relative heavyweights compered to a scoot you could pick up and carry.....moving load = instability.

I don't think it is fair on the dog. Bit like those 'ball hitch mounted dog carriers' . I always ask whether they'd put their kids in one ?

I've seen this but you wouldn't want to do it.

But somehow the parents thought them wearing helmets made a contribution to safety........poor kids wouldn't stand a chance in even a low speed accident.

Don't understand where your coming from I've got a dog and sometimes can only manage a couple of weeks in France,couldn't bear to leave him in kennels or justify the cost.
We go to Scotland at least once a year in a 24 ft Mh with 2 young kids but do without a scooter,there's nowhere we can't park or drive to ,,after all it's about the same size as a large delivery van.
If it was just mrs Vlad me and the dog I'd drive or get a bus,to think you can get a scooter for two and a dog leads me to think you've been holidaying too long in places like Vietnam .

Don't listen to the naysayers, your pup will be fine in a box on the luggage rack, we met some French folk in Italy that we're touring Europe and that's exactly what they had done, seen it done loads of time, the dogs love it!

With respect to the nay Sayers, seen too many dogs with heads out of car windows enjoying the ride to worry too much in that area.

Impossible for anyone to be able to say whether dogs love or hate being blown about at 40MPHish but before you consider any open-air carrier, have a chat to a vet and listen to what they say.
I think you'll find that vets consider it to be very uncaring as they frequently have to treat dogs with ear problems and infections caused by just such treatment.
Perhaps it's a case of dog OR scooter.
