Obscure Part Required (1 Viewer)

I have managed to break the plastic hinge pin on my electrical socket and what's left of the pin isn't long enough to be used. I could bodge something with a bit of wire or strimmer cord but would prefer the right bit if possible.

I have tried Googling but without success. Does anyone know the proper name for this pin, if it has one, and more importantly where I might get a replacement? You can see the missing bit of the pin in the picture below.

I think youll find it allmost impossible to get a pin, I would drill it out and fit something made up, puting a spot of superglue near the outside edge just to hold it in

I done the same on my last van I used stainless wire and araldite but you culd use small stainless sprung role pins that was recommended after I had fixed it that repair is still good to this day a bit off brass brazing wire might work to

The pin is only supplied with a replacement cover and the cover is only about a quid less than a complete socket, as others have said best to make something up yourself.

as above .. could also use the pin from a s/s pop rivet ..

Wouldn't it quicker and easier to just replace the whole socket assembly ?

if you bodge it will be better than original materials wise cost of repair 20p it's cost more to run the computer to post the problem
take out the pin and use that as your guide for gauge of pin

You may need to buy a meter length and you need something to cut it with......side cutters/pliers WONT cut it.

I've done a temporary repair with a bit of strimmer line, it isn't quite the right diameter but it will hold for the moment and it's too cold outside to hang around for long! I removed the other pin and passed the line all the way through then squeezed the ends so it shouldn't fall out. The neatest solution as already suggested would be stainless steel roll pins or a couple of fine SS self-tappers. Further to the above I've just ordered a pack of 4 stainless steel roll pins from that site, 30mm by 3mm for £1.99. I'll tell you if they fit when they arrive!

Of course the disadvantage of these will be they woill be very strong and I think the idea of the plastic pin is it gives before the cover. So the next time I brush against it I will be needing a new cover.

Before you bought the roll pins I was going to suggest plastic knitting needles - available in a multitude of diameters.

Ok here is what i just done to fix mine, i got a rivet of the correct size, slid off the collar then attached it through the holes and glued it in place on the inside

Use two tapered dowls one in each end
