hi oldbloke and welcome to the FUN.

chances are you wont make it any quicker.

only thing i can think of is an aftermarket turbo kit but that wont come cheap even if you can find one!!! bearing in mind its 23 years old now.

only other option would be an engine transplant for a newer engine or a complete re-build.

i agree with john but there is a different set of gears you can buy that make it cruise
better. personaly i dont like petrol so i took mine out and put a diesel with power steering in the camper i have now and it is far quicker in fact ive just bought another talbot and am in the middle off taking the engine & box out as a spare.
