Am I right in thinking the speed limits for our MH 3.7 tons are 50km towns 80km single carriageway and 90km dual carriageway/motorway.

Do people in France still stick the speed limit signs on, I haven't had one for years, have I just been lucky not to be stopped

Well ...ok part of the road laws but ...indeed I doubt they would stop you for that .
Now of course if you are stopped for some other reason ...and more specifically for over speeding, then they might add it to your cart !!!!
As long as people are quiet, and not being on a "way to" some low tax town/country , then they should not be stopped for such little things.

If you know you're going to drive through some sensible zone, like Paris at the moment, then do stick to the law. Don't give them a reason to stop you, because once they are on your case, you'll be checked for everything.

Surely as long as you are legal in UK you don't need to put them on I haven't and not been pulled yet touching wood!!

I used to have speed stickers, but never saw a French motorhome with them so I took them off. I thought it was just drawing attention to my over 3.5T status which I thought undesirable as many aires are only accessible by less than 3.5t roads, such as the Bergues aire which I often use as handy for the tunnel without being too close.

I thought about them but, couldn't find any to buy at a reasonable price so 20,000 miles in France and so far pas de problem!

Most motorhome accessory shops have the round stickers in stock. They seem to be quite visible on 3.5t + vehicles now. I was at a rally last weekend and there were at least six camping cars showing the 110, 90, 80 stickers.

Hi all
Can someone please confirm that these limits are still correct and they are applicable for our 5t with single rear axle with twin wheels (the camping and motorhome club states something completely different)
Thanks

We got 'flashed' on the N12 Eastbound just the west of St Brieuc on Friday.
I instinctively looked at the Sat. Nav. and we were doing 87:eek::eek::eek: (but that was KPH:D)

You will generally get flashed by the tall speed cameras, the ones designed for cars and trucks, if you are over 3 metres high and travelling over the hgv speed limit. I have been flashed at 97 kmh and 92 kmh when I am allowed to do 110 on a motorway.

A timely thread, was flashed twice on Saturday near Troyes and again near Rheims, both times in either a 110 or 130 limit but I was only doing 103 on cruise control.

So thanks @Allanm , didn't think I'd done anything wrong and your explanation is very helpful(y)

Been flashed quite a few times when over the speed limit for trucks but within the MH limit. We are 4.5 tons so lower limit than most motorhomes.
No tickets in the post...............yet. (y):D

On a recent trip, as mentioned in another thread, I was flashed a few times on a dual carriageway, marked speed limit 110, when I was doing 90. On previous trips I did not worry about this as they were unable to get UK motorists details, but with that changing I was wondering what the procedure was.

I presume that the system works on a computer rather than a person looking at the photos and distinguishing MHs from HGVs. If so, I guess it would know that a French vehicle is a motorhome from its registration number. But what is going to happen with UK vehicles? Will their computer ask the DVLA for the type of vehicle, eg HGV, MH:h:.5t, MH>3.5t or will it just ask for our name and address so that we could be fined in the UK?

Having been flashed on an autoroute, I checked with the C&MC on our return and got this response (I was only doing 85kph).

Thank you for your email enquiry regarding the French Speed Limits for Motorhomes over 3.5t using the French AutoRoute network. The information is provided to us by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) who are given the information for government departments, police authorities as well as motoring organisations in each member country. We have confirmed the speed limit information with them and can confirm that the speed limit for the French AutoRoute network for Motorhomes over 3.5t is 110kph.
