On and off for many years.
This time in Coldstream. No water or toilets but there is a bin and glass recycling.

Coming north on the A698 turn right just before the petrol station (Guards Road). Then second right (sign for Hillview Industrial Estate) and follow that road, there is parking for long vehicles for up to 60 hours. This car park is used by truckers :) and appears to be very quiet. Not too far to Coldstream centre.

Coldstream is a nice place to stroll round, the usual pubs and cafes and some specialist shops, most notably the army surplus place (the people who own it live near me so an unashamed plug - it is a good shop for outdoor stuff - closed Sunday and Monday). There is also a small co-op.

It's okay for an overnighter when you are en-route. Parking on Coldstream High Street is difficult at the best of times so most people just drive straight through.

We were there to pick something up from one of the houses opposite and realised the parking would be fine for a night.

There is another carpark with toilets almost in the centre, with a decent dog walk off into the countryside on the right heading North. Plenty of room for our van. Don't miss the Coldstream Guards museum as well as the army surplus store, super walk along the river.

Not sure you are supposed to overnight there (I don't know as I always park elsewhere) and it gets very busy in the summer - but it is handy for the High Street. The people who own the army surplus are neighbours of ours :)

The parking off Hillview is free and you can stay for up to 60 hours. Assuming anyone would actually check how long you have been there.

It's not totally clear from the Scottish Borders web site, although it does say that the restrictions on sleeping, camping & cooking apply only to certain car parks and doesn't list Coldstream. I should have thought that erring on the side of caution would be the sensible approach. The odd van may well be tolerated but an organised rally (as per the example of one "club" at Whitby Marina before the latest restrictions) would probably cause some upset.

You will find Coldstream people are the salt of the earth and will always lend a hand. If you get stuck drive through the Town from the east, directly at the end of the High St. they is a road/river bridge, take a left, 200 mts, park on the gravel next to the wooden bridge. You will not disturb anybody and you only a short walk from the town square.. Don't forget to visit the Museam and of course the many Pubs and the Legion will make you very welcome.
Best Regards Mac

There are a number of car parks in the Scottish Borders where motorhomes are welcome. The council (see link Here) has a Motorhome Parking page with details, including any restrictions.

I think the Borders list at least has been changed but not updated, we are regulars in Jedburgh, where overnight stops in motorhomes are allowed and they even have free wifi, a great stop off for us as it tends to be a decent start on the journey usually to the Highlands

My understanding was that a number of borders town now allow this, but only Hawick seems to be mentioned

I am now doubting my own reasoning, but am sure the car park we use is signed to say it is allowed, but the first car park you come to from the south specifically says no over night parking, you need to go the main car park in the middle beside the road, thye also have decent public toilets, although I think a man takes money of you for the privilege, still worth it though for decent toilets which they are

Thanks David. I can see the "No Overnight Stay" and "No Trading or Camping" on Google Street Map at that first car park (Lothian Park?) but can't see any signs at Canongate (though it may be that Street Maps just doesn't show them). The council were very helpful in adding the motorhome parking page when I asked so, given the statement "Any restrictions will be clearly signposted at the car park.", I would guess that where there are no signs detailing restrictions then they don't exist. It would be worth checking for signs though, I suppose.

Will have a better look next trip, not sure on return route this time yet, I am sure there cant be any signs saying no camping, so have applied the logic that the other bans it, so it must be OK here. I have also been rethinking the toilets, I now don't think you pay, but they are shut overnight

Heaven help me when I get old :D

Found another likely 'overnighter' whilst out and about yesterday. Decided to stop for a while by the harbour at Tayport - a few miles east of the bottom end of the Tay Bridge towards St. Andrews. Norman got chatting to a local resident who told him that overnighting was acceptable - local pubs a few yards away serving meals. Good toilets adjacent to car park, and also it seems that there is a possibility of having designated motorhome parking spaces - not sure yet about services. Lovely walking along Fife Coastal path which follows the coast right down to Kincardine. More later as we get more information
