X250 cab extra 12volt&USB options. THIS is left hand drive so just imagine it transposed for RHD

First, previous related threads.........
:-Replacement 12volt sockets
:-12volt socket permanent live

So extra outlet options? a bit of dismantling soon finds suitable places but initially I have chosen right in front of the driver so that USB items can be charged while in the storage below the steering column. Also My CHINKYNAV on my DIY mounting bracket will plug straight in with a very short lead.

Broken Link Removed
Removal of the instruments and the radio allows full access.

A 25mm hole drilled and then filed out to the profile of the USB outlet.

Important! spray the thread with silicon before inserting or the lockring will be a struggle.

The best method of adding extra lines off the feed is with these WAGO connectors

Instruments removal.
Remove the T25 Torx screws, one either side of the binacle
CA_01071512355011-L.jpg

Then pull up on the leading edge near the windscreen, it will then pull clear towards you.
The instrument cluster is held by 2 Philips screws one either end and then it will pull upwards and free.

To replace just reverse the procedure.

Firstly before I continue, this position is also a suitable candidate in the passenger side shelf

Now if you recall in the thread "permanet live socket" once done one of the original ignition switched socket feeds became redundant. I don't want the USB outlets to be always on so I have utilised those wires using 3 way Wago's leaving a spare connection for future.

They then just push into this recess that does not interfere with anything else.

To you too! Yes they come in many different configurations, just search WAGO on ebay.
These are the re useable variety and come in 2 3 or 5 way
Prices vary dramatically so search well.

Sorry for resurrecting this but I'm planning on doing similar and changing the sockets in the cab (can't believe how easily the power plugs pop out of them! And Mr Stroppy gets, well, stroppy, when his phone/ipad won't charge properly) and while I'm at it adding a second socket in the central compartment. So @Techno many thanks for the guide, I've just got a couple of questions.

Firstly - these WAGO connectors look good - am I right in thinking that I need a pair of 3 ways and put the feed wires from one of the existing sockets into them and then two more wires from each WAGO (one going to the existing socket, and one to the new socket).

Secondly - what size wire to the new socket? I'm planning on using the feed from the socket marked 180watt max (I realise that this total power will be split between the two sockets). I was thinking 20amp 1.5mm? Or would 2.5mm be better?

Thanks in anticipation

At least as big as existing.

@Techno - Great thread(s) - thanks. Just pimping our new to us Hymer with an X250 cab. Planning on replacing one of the passengers 12 volt sockets (Co-pilot will ask why we need so many USBs if I do both!), and putting one on the RHS somewhere. How do you dismantle the drivers lower shelf?
I've just installed the head unit removed from our previous M/home - and it had a hands free microphone so needed to get it over the driver's side. The pictures of speedo removal were invaluable. I've got the drivers (RHS) vent out by pulling it - Looks like it was already broken - from a previous install and there's a screw missing.View media item 23245 View media item 23244 View media item 23243Finally, any problem using a WAGO and taking a feed from one of the existing 12v sockets on the passenger side across to the right for a drivers side USB?
BTW Screwfix is cheap for WAGO, but only if you want a lot - I found a pretty good deal on Amazon.

Recent addition of a Qi charger phone mount
I ordered a special 200mm cable for this so it can share the outlet with the dash cam and both work fine
Sat navs are a complete waste of money if you have a good smart phone and google maps
