Water drain pipes and taps freezing up (1 Viewer)

I took the precaution of having tank heaters and insulation installed when purchasing our vehicle. Subsequently I insulated the drinking water tank drain pipe which was surprisingly omitted. During the recent cold spell we had temps down to -6 on our last two nights. On the last night both drinking water and grey water drain pipes froze. As we were going back into storage I had to drain both tanks and spent time underneath with a hair dryer so we could get on our way. I now realise I need to insulate the 28 mm pipe from the grey water tank. However, I cant think of any way to insulate the small plastic drain down taps. has anyone any ideas please? I realise that those nights were the coldest of the year and it's not an every day problem!

Anything is better than nothing.
Wrap some thickish fabric around the taps.....bit of old blanket or curtain.

Happy new year to you. There have been a few posts on here and the sensibly ones Recommend opening the grey water drain tap and run into a bucket/ container and it doesn't matter if it freezes and use bottled water if there is a chance of a deep freeze draining tanks before the problem occurs.

Pappajohn is right though anything to stop the cold getting to the pipe will help. We use heat trace wire on our static to keep pipes under the van from freezing.

Try the silver bubble wrap insulation I think you can by it for wrapping pipes from wicks, if not cut the large sheet into lengths to suit

Don't need to, just get a bucket with a large hole in it, and drain into it on site before you leave.
