Is it possible to have this unit plugged into the lighter socket to assist in charging up the main battery ( I have a solar panel charging the Leisure Battery).

Yes,
provided the ciggy socket is 'live' when the ignition is off..

Why not buy the battery master, that will divert any spare charge from your panels or your hookup to the vehicle battery, a lot cheaper than another panel.

I was looking at those - problem - BIG problem - they are ENORMOUS.

I saw the package in a shop, not much smaller than a MH fridge and when I tried to move it it felt like a MH fridge.

The had B Grade ones at £149 a few weeks ago.

Anyway, I bought a genny instead.

i ordered one of these the last time they supposedly had them in stock.
i cancelled it for 3 reasons......

1 ) was going to be about 11 weeks delivery.

2 ) it isnt roof mountable.

3 ) it aint waterproof.

the ad states weatherproof but it isnt actually waterproof and its 56inchs X 30inchs and weighs over 60lbs

so maybe a little large to sit on your dash to charge the battery.
