We have been meandering south from Scotland since since late November, through Yorkshire, Peak District and have been in the Hampshire/West Sussex area for the last two weeks visiting family.
Seeing as we were so far south, I had a mad idea last night.......could we go across to Brittany for a couple of weeks? So the question is......what sites are open, is it worthwhile going across at this time of the year or do any of the Funsters have any tips or suggestions.

Most, if not all sites close at the end of August in France but most camping-car aires will be open.. some may have closed the water off for winter.. Weather will be similar to Cornwall.. so could be wet and windy.
There are a several towns worth visiting, Honfluer has lots of shops and eateries, if a tad expensive, has a big aire with EHU and walking distance to town .

Mont St Michel is also worth a visit ..

Personally I don't think it's worth the expense in winter.. but if you decide to go I'll list a few aires that are worth visiting..

At this time of year, I would probably choose Belgium and NE France rather than trek all the way to Brittany. Some really interesting cities to visit (assuming you have not been before): Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Tournai, Brussels, Saint Omer. Aires are available in many towns and several should have water flowing.

Ipers, arras , Lille to name but three more, nowt wrong with northern France , often overlooked by people rushing off to the south!

Thanks to you all for your replies and advice:xThumb: We're now on the CC site at Brighton and it's blowing a gale.......will be here until after Christmas and will probably just meander back north in the New Year.

There are plenty motorhomes and caravans on the site.....haven't seen any Funster stickers yet:xlaugh:

Thanks for that Bertie:xwink:

Scotjim mentioned Mont St Michel, we visited over the Christmas period some years ago. It was very busy but still worth it particularly if you get there before the buses arrive at 10ish. Plenty of aires and some of the Municipal Sites used to open at Christmas in Normandy but can't guarantee they do now.
We just wander sometimes and have plans to become vagrants when work is finally done in 2016.
Isn't it wonderful that you can just go wherever you like when you like!:xgrin:

We have been trying to get down south all year, I needed to visit my elderly parents and two brothers and we've managed to see them a couple of times over the past two weeks:xThumb:

I think we'll stay this side of the channel given that it's so late in the year, the last time we were in Brittany we were in a static caravan and the children were very young. So possibly next year, if we have any money left after paying for our daughter's wedding:xeek:

We were going to spend Christmas at Hillhead CC site near Brixham but decided against that at the last minute. Being around here gives us more options for sites and then we can just saunter our way back north again:xsad:

The forecast for here is for a fair bit of sunshine and reasonable temperatures, so you could come and join us - champagne or bucks fizz get together on Christmas morning, and beer and bbq lunch on New Years Day. OK, its a bit further than Brittany, but an extra day's travel will do it!

And there's a special rate for Funsters at the moment, only 12.50€ (about £10) per night including pitch, 2 people and 16A (yes, 16A) hookup.

You will be very welcome!

That's a pity we missed you:xsmile: It was a gorgeous day here today and we went into town on the bus, walked down and got it outside Lidl. Lots of wildlife around the site, we might very well have rabbit instead of turkey for Christmas dinner:xgrin:

It was a beautiful day in Brighton today:xThumb:

But France always draws us....................it's like a magnet whatever the time of year and we are off to the Brenne and the Dordogne in September so another trip in December would be a bonus for us.:xThumb:

We really do want to get over with the van, the last time we were in Brittany the children were very young and we had a static caravan with Eurocamp. We keep an eye on the property prices out there, they're great value for money. Unfortunately with the way property prices have gone in Scotland it's not a good time to sell, our two buy-to-let flats have dropped in value over the past couple of years:xsad:

Winter of 2011 we did November to March at Parc Verger!
It was almost always sunny but cool, great for walking.
In Feb we had two weeks of snow. About 2" deep and was bone dry! Like walking on sugar!
We loved it! This holiday convinced us to move to France!!!
