We are going to spain for 4 months, but can't get travel insurance with our current insurers Sainsburys for more than 60 days and they didn't know any other insurers that would cover us for more than 60 days.
Does anyone know of an insurer that does more than 60 days?

Slight snag with Lloyd's Bank here Garry - I've been with them now since the late 1980's, always had diabetes, the hypothyroid came more recently but it's par for the course once you have one auto-immune condition, treatment does change occasionally but only when new insulins arrive and they are better, or whatever. Have NEVER been hospitalised through them anyway. All declared to the Bank's insurers every year, no probs.

This year - they wanted an AP of £600+ to continue covering me!

Considering we had run the bank account down to nowt and moved it, but so as to keep the Annual Travel cover, were still paying £25 a month for the privilege of having the Platinum account - so we were already paying £300 a year for the cover - everything else you get with the account has been dually covered anyway for about 14 years - we're now in the process of closing it.

I have looked round but insurers want silly money. Staysure - who everyone on here seems to swear by and whom I have asked specifically because of ME - won't give cover for a longer holiday than 62 days as annual cover, which is useless. If either of us has an emergency the E111 or whatever will do the job anyway where we go - normally France - and we could pay anyway - rather than pay £1,000 or more a year and never claim. We can stick the £1,000pa into the rainy day account and watch it grow!

My earnings since 1967 were from the British insurance industry and to say I now feel absolutely disgusted with them is an understatement.

However, it's still AXA who underwrite the Lloyd's cover - and they are French - so what's "Go forth and multiply you a---holes!" in French?

With "previous" to our name we struggled on price until we went to Covered2Go. Pleased with the outcome there but they appear to cover up to 60 days or extended only up to age 64 so maybe worth a look. Mind you it's German backed, is that better or worse than French? :)

Just like to bring to your attention, if you die being careful, I know here in Spain you will be cremated with in a day or maybe two if your partner begs them.
But that might not be a worry, if you want to be cremated, but you will need to have insurance to be repatriated for a funeral on home turf.
Just thought I would mention it, as it may interest others when they cross the channel. (y). Bob.

Not if you have previous medical problems they won't, as I found out.

I have said this before but no one seems to think it's a problem , if you are with staysure , read your policy because in the small print , think it's page 12 but not positive, it states if you havnt booked a return ferry at the same time as your outward one your insurance is void, in other words you can't go on an open ended trip

Actual wording
  • number of days for which you have paid for cover, you will not be covered after the last day for which you have paid. Trips must commence and end in your home country and a return ticket must have been booked prior
    to departure.

Dont forget to notify them your ferry dates. Friend of mine in Spain has just been landed with a bill for 5500 euros for an operation in Benidorm. He thought he was insured until he claimed. It appears that in the small print it states before travel they need to be notified of the dates of departure and date of return travel. This means return travel must be booked before departure. BUSBY.

Follow this link to MSE who has links for extended cover and pre existing conditions, plus some useful do's and don't s
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance

BTW - also have lloyds platinum, which has always included my children if travelling with us whilst in full time education. Just checked for skiing cover and loose this option if upgrade to get winter spirts cover, therefore used MSE to get seperate ski insurance for daughter, whilst retaining both. Oh it's a palaver

Look at the insurance that has higher health cover, not enhanced flight delay, baggage handling loss etc as hardly relevant to motorhome. They do vary considerably

Hi

We have had annual travel insurance from Insure and Go in the past for up to 4 months any trip . Two years a ago we had to claim when I suddenly developed a severe headache and was carted off to A&E in Fort Lauderdale and had several scans to rule out brain haemorrhage . I was there for maybe 3 hours but the bill was a whopping $ 8000.00 ! We paid a deposit of $ 800.00 on our credit card and made a claim when we got back home . They paid up but only after a thorough investigation and a letter from my GP confirming that I had been fit to travel . Read the small print and declare all existing medical conditions is my advise . We now have a specialised Yachtsmans annual insurance from Topsail for up to 5 months any trip which covers us for any European travel as well . It is not cheap at about £550.00 for the two of us because I have a couple of medical conditions but it is essential for the USA and the Bahamas . For European travel I think it would be cheaper because of the E111 . In fact that was all I needed when I busted my knee skiing in Austria a few years ago . I got back and did not bother with a claim from my insurance instead claiming from the NHS instead for cost of drugs and consultations because of the Exess on my policy it made more financial sense .

Yes.

Edit: Apply online but don't be fooled into paying for it. It's free here.

And remember your travel insurance may be invalidated if you don't have one.. on top of which you do need to stay alert in an emergency that you are taken to a clinic not a private hospital as that first hour of treatment may be the most expensive and is not covered by all policies when in EU
