First year under our belt!
Help! We're on a CL on Sheppey for a couple of nights and when the heavens opened, as you might expect, we forgot the awning was out. It filled with rain and has gone boing.
It always gave the impression it was just one more creak away from expiring anyway but this was just too much for it and one of the arm hinges has broken.
Can anyone advise on how to remove it from the van so we don't have to drive home at 10mph with a foot of broken awning hanging off the side?

With it wound out you should see a few screws along the inside of the casing, Once removed the housing just unhooks from the brackets.
EDIT
Or you might see the screws along the bottom edge of the casing on the outside

What size is it ? I have a virtually brand new one in the garage.
Took it off as soon as we bought the miller to replace it with a 4.5 meter jobby

I hope the lesson learned is that you should always set it out with one leg longer than the other so that in the event of rain it will run off one end rather than build up in the middle (y)

I think the joint might have been damaged anyway as the last time we used the awning it didn't seem to straighten properly.
One of those 'must check that' jobs I didn't get round to!

I don't know. Is your garage in Kent, by any chance?

Yay, there's 3 screws along the bottom! I managed to get the PDF manual on my phone and you're right, that's all that holds it on. If I can't unbolt the arm at least I can get the while thing off :)

Not the last time I looked.. but we have had some high winds LOL !!
No, it is still out back of my house here in Thetford :)
BUT !If the size is right, you could make a beeline straight up the M11 and it could be fitted in less than 15 minutes :)

Well that's really good of you! I'll have a measure when it gets light and go from there.
What sort of price would you be looking for?

I had a similar thing in the summer.. roll out Fiamma instead of winding one and wind instead of rain but the replacement hinge is about £15.. I was impressed how reasonable their spares are..

Something else to look into then, thank you. All might not be lost :)

Just finishing my cuppa then it's play time. At least the sun is out now.

Arm removed, disaster averted. Doesn't look like it's feasible to change the joint though as there's a fairly hefty steel cable running through it and it's under tension.
I don't like things under tension. Including me :)

I'm really grateful to everybody here who made suggestions and gave advice. You're all lovely and I hope I'm able to do something similar in the future xxx
