Underslung LPG to Alko chassis fitting in pictures (1 Viewer)

This is the start of my replacement tank thread. The old one came with the van when I purchased it. A number of issues in it's history.
Firstly it is too big being 315 diameter although it has never been hit yet to my knowledge but a 300 or 270 would have been more appropriate.
Secondly it was badly fitted originally with inadequate support straps and the whole unit was swinging on the Alko crossmember as it was too heavy.
The original owner had the straps upgraded and the mounting cradle braced.
Today though it is time to put it right.

I have bought a replacement tank that is longer but only 270mm diameter. This holds 44 litres after 80% (55 litre) The existing is 48 litre (60 litre) so I'm only losing 4 litres of gas capacity.
Here is my new tank complete with inline filter. I have already made rubber bands 3mm thick by 40mm wide.

I chose to buy from Gasit as they are CONSIDERABLY cheaper than the same unit from autogas 2000.
Gasit say they are the ONLY direct from factory seller.

I will go buy some steel tomorrow to make my own cradle but I don't have welding facilities and will sub out the hot work and then get it galvanised.

OK I'll keep adding details
Rubber strip very cheap. I chose 3mm some installers use 2mm or nothing at all.
£9.40 delivered for 5 metres. I bought a large bottle of superglue at local ironmongers for £2.43 will last years.
Simply cut square and glue, dries very fast and strong. Glueing makes installing easier as the endless ring just stays put while doing other tasks.

I plan to use 3mmx30mm flat bar to create two hoops that will be formed as two halves that bolt together.
My chassis is 265mm deep, I hope to keep my tank to 282mm all told.

This compares with my spare wheel that totals 275mm all told.

Existing tank is in the region of 330mm

I've been looking at similar. However, I've decided to mount mine either on the roof using bungy straps and mountain ropes to lash it to the swift roof rack. I will then run the inlet pipe directly down through the skylight to the back of the cooker thus eradicating the need for a regulator (bloody things always go wrong).
The other option is to mount it vertical on the rear ladders and drill a hole though the back panel but I'm worried it might get stolen if I use that route.....

Use stainless for your bracketry. Easily welded, looks good, and doesn't need galvanising. I've done three - two underneath (same van) and one for a friend's caravan in the front locker. All in stainless. If you don't want to weld it's quite possible to design them so you don't need to.

Plain steel is dirt cheap and I have a major galvanising company less than a mile from me

I think you will need to keep it flat on the roof if its a vapour tank otherwise you will turn the hob into a flame thrower.

There again strap it vertical it takes up less room and just go out for a Pizza.

I had to use 40x40x5mm angle as 4mm does not exist.
Grand total of £20 cash

The air box only goes one way and must be in the correct attitude.
Weight test, I'm equal to over 150 litres of propane

The really pleasing outcome is I won't need any welding.
Galvanising may have a minimum order value but I'm happy to pay up to £75
Just some straps now which are going to be very much simpler than I envisaged.
