On and off for many years.
Lovely! My first 'van was a Toyota Hiace - bright orange!
Mine as well (but not orange). Ours was a maxi-wheelbase mini-bus conversion imported from Japan as they weren't available in the UK. I used it every day and it was 17 years old when it was no longer possible to get parts.

Brilliant job, Terry.
Is this the one that had the roof held on with little more than Blu Tac, holes all over the place?
Hell of a transformation if it is.

Yep that's the one -roof is off a VW T25 I THINK-- Paul and Tash the funsters who own it (sorry don't remember there user name) have never owned a M/H or camper van before so it's a very big learning curve for them -they have had a couple of niggles with the van since getting it back -loose wire and a scratch on the tints- but to be fair they never once baulked at spending on all new stuff for the inside -deffo knew what they wanted and simply let us get on with it (y)He paid a astronomical price for the van as a van, but I am sure they will get there monies worth of enjoyment from it (y):)

many many years! since I was a kid
great conversion, but a potential deathtrap with no roll over braces supporting the roof. when a hightop is fitted to a standard van, the structural strength is lost when the metal roof is cut off.

years ago we used to be able to buy and fit hightop kits. the instructions made it clear that omitting the frame is dangerous.

wouldnt want to be in that in a side on bump or worse still a rollover

as said though terry, super job as always

Not sure on the strength of the roof, but its certainly a lot stronger now than when it arrived (y)There is about 4 ft of original roof left at the front and 2,1/2 ft left at the rear -then it's all insulated and covered in ply along with strengthening bars along the length of the van to support the upper bed boards (y)Not sure how much the cupboards themselves will add but it's a lot stronger than before -All in all it's probably stronger than most CB vans of today ;):)At 21 yrs old and no rust to mention it is probably made from twice thicker metal than now -weighs a ton and goes like a pleasant to drive slug (y);)I would sooner be in a accident in the Toyota than in any old VW rust bucket
