Hi new van is fitted with gaslow system 2 bottles not sure if 11kg or 13kg. Now, having no experience of the system at all how many ltrs in a kg? Do you leave both bottles "open"? To fill do you just drive in and fit the "filler hose" and top up as in filling diesel? Does it top both bottles up? :Blush:

Hi Ken

Make sure that both bottles are turned "OFF" when refilling. Both bottles will be filled at the same time. The automatic cut off valves will ensure that both bottles will be filled to their 80% capacity whether one bottle has less gas left in it than the other.
Hope this makes sense and is of help to you, Gaslow is one of the best mods you can have fitted IMO.

And to answer your second question they will be 11 Kg holding approximately 22 liters each. But as Brisey Said they are fitted with an automatic cut off, so in answer to your final question, yes just attach the nozzle and follow the instructions on the pump.

Most gas pumps carry compehensive instructions
like these, so don’t worry if you do not have this
article to hand.
Once I’d found the pump, it was no more difficult
to park alongside than with a regular petrol
pump. Remove the filler cap from the caravan,
take the nozzle from the pump and check the
display resets to zero (as you would a petrol
pump).
Here is a close-up of the filler attachment on the
caravan. Don’t worry about the screw thread
inside - it’s the two lugs you need to deal with.
Air may become trapped inside the cylinder on the first filling. This could cause difficulties in lighting your appliances as, being
lighter, it sits on top of the gas. If this happens, open the cylinder valve to atmosphere for a few seconds and vent off some gas.
This need only be done once.
After Your first fill, it is recommended that you should carry out a quick leak check by using a soapy water solution brushed over
the stainless steel filling hose connections - checking to see if there are any bubbles.
IMPORTANT: FIRST FILLING ONLY. In some rare instances it is possible that on the FIRST FILL ONLY, the 80% shutoff

give it a third of a turn clockwise to seal it
securely.
Now I’m noticing the first major difference
between the LPG pump and a petrol pump - you
pull the trigger and nothing happens at first.
there’s nothing to worry about, just keep a grip
on the trigger and locate the small clip. Use this
clip to keep the trigger in place.
When the clip is holding the trigger, you can let
go. If the clip is not engaged fully, the nozzle will
release and a small spurt of gas will escape. This is
nothing to worry about. Try again and use the clip
to keep the nozzle pulled in.
Now everything is set up securely. Double check
that the display reads zero and you are ready to
start dispensing gas.

There is a big red plunger on the pump that you
need to keep depressed to dispense LPG. If you let
go, the gas stops. Press again and the pump
resumes. Once your Gaslow system has received
80 per cent capacity, the pump will stop
automatically. You cannot fill more than that for
safety reasons.

After releasing the plunger, unclip the trigger and
remove the nozzle by twisting it anti-clockwise
one third of a turn. Be careful, as it may be very
cold. You’ll hear a small rush of gas as the nozzle
depressurises. This is normal. All that remains is to
replace the nozzle, pay the cashier and try to resist
the urge to spend all your savings on chocolate!!

I have refillable propane gas bottles fitted in my Dethleff and I also have a Dometic fridge fitted.
This combination has proved to be a bloody nuisance. I have been filling my bottles up at garage forecourts which advertise LPG or Auto gas.
Dometic say in their literature that, I quote," "town gas, natural gas or auto gas Are NOT reccommended to be used". I have discolouring to the outside vent and worst of all I am suffering from strong fumes coming from the gas burner on the fridge. All the time the fridge is turned on the fumes are powerful and get into the van through the open door or window. We are afraid to keep the fridge on during the night for fear of carbon monoxide poisoning.We do have a carbon monoxide alarm fitted but it doesn't allay our fears at night.
I have spoken to and emailed Dometic Tech. dept.and I have emailed major petroleum companys to ask "what is the difference between Auto Gas and LPG as sold at garage forecourts."
Dometic tell me that the Auto gas is NOT the same as gas sold ready bottled.ie. Calor or Flo.
The petroleum companies tell me that the LPG sold at the pump IS the same gas that they fill their bottles with and sell via garage forecourts and camping shop outlets. I know who I believe.
Gaslow were very helpful and supplied me with information and a copy of a letter they had received from Dometic regarding a new gas jet design for some fridge models to help stop the problem.
So where do I go and who do I believe.
I would say, if you are thinking of having refillable bottles fitted then go for it, but dont use it on a Dometic fridge. If you are a reasonably heavy user then these bottles will save you pounds so go get another make of fridge.

Most modern appliances are suitable for either propane or butane (or a mixture) provided the regulator is set at the correct pressure. Your new van is unlikely to have problems.

The mix of propane and butane in autogas does vary from one country to another and sometimes varies with the season so it can cause problems when the temperature drops close to freezing point.

Hi fridge is not Dometic I think it's Thetford? anyway as I said van is 9 months old demo and fridge was running when we spent about 3 hours going over the van. Thaks again for the help and advice.

Hi Mrs,Ken Thetford is made by Dometic :thumb: Don't worry probably the worst thing to happen is the burner nossel may need cleaning and this is easy to spot as the flue will start blacking / sooting :thumb:

last year coming from spain into france i stopped at the first motorway service area where i saw an autogas sign.

i kept pressing the big red plunger but got no gas. disconnected & reconnected a couple of times but still no gas.

monsieur came out from the shop & pointed to the instructions. the big red plunger is an emergency stop button. if pressed 3 times ALL the fuel pumps are shut down for 10 mins.oh:

it was the longest 10 minutes of my life. the natives were not impressed.
