Hi all,

We were at the NEC Birmingham this year with the intention of upgrading to a Buccaneer caravan. Somehow, we drove home with an order sheet for Dethleffs Coachbuilt 7870. So that's why we're here :). This comes in March, and we absolutely cannot wait! We've already started planning where to go, researching places to stay, researching other options (e.g. nav systems, air suspension, inflatable awnings!).

We have 4 lovely daughters who love exploring as we do. To us, this (expensive) leisure activity is about freedom and getting away from technology (PS/3s, phones, TVs, computers!) and avoiding cabin fever.

Anyway, I will probably post in the main forums for our first set of questions to gain valuable insight from everyone's experience here. Talk to you all soon!

Hi Jeroen, welcome to MotorhomeFun.
It's going to be a looooooong wait until March comes around.
But I am sure the wait will be worthwhile.
Exciting times ahead.

Now that is quite rare across all Europeans. Most campsites the routine seems to be, hook up, satellite up for many.

We take a load of TV entertainment on a hard drive and could not manage without internet for weather and FUN.

But "freedom", oh yes we are all with you there.

Thanks everyone (already! that was some quick response times!).

@Brisey Yup - March is a long time. How we wish it was this year, and waiting is going to be a killer!

@hilldweller Our daughters have every conceivable technology here in the house - don't mind our evenings in our motorhome fueled by technology, but daytime we concentrate on freedom, exploration and FUN :) Biking, walking, talking (!), and playing card games, board games and fantasy games (Magic the Gathering et al :)). And socialising with others around us, that's the other attraction of staying at the sites!

And FUN meets. We enjoy a good party. Not a lot happens near Cambridge yet. There is a Thetford meet being organised right now, search on "thetford".

@old-mo Yes, of-course, a crate of wine in the motorhome is the reason we decided to move away from caravans! It was disappointing leaving Calais without some commiserating cases of wine to take back to end-of-holiday drive back home ;-)

In seriousness, the fact that 300kg payload just isn't enough for the six of us (but remember caravans you don't need to add in passengers, as they are in the car!), but the new motorhome gives us over 1.2 tonnes :) :) :) Mind you, that goes quick (6 bikes, 6 seats, 6 x pretty much everything!)

That is one awesome payload.

But thinking of four daughters, one wife and you in a motorhome, probably only just enough to carry the fine brandy you will need to survive.

Does it have 6 seatbelts ? Some don't.

Hi from us two too:cheers:
That's a massive pay load !
I know when we had 5 bikes 2 kayaks 3 kids 2 dogs plus all the clothes shoes, walking boots and a few bits of food , we were right up there with ours. Thats before all the beer and wine !
That's with it being up plated too.
Then again our kids were teenagers not toddlers or primary. So a lot bigger everything.

we refuse to have a tv in the van if we did it would be the same as being at home
We're the same. My van was designed with a TV cupboard (it was supposed to rise up out of the top), now essential storage as it holds our folding chairs and table!
