Yesterday was a truly wild day on Holy Island with gale force westerlies. We spent the day on island through the high tide safe crossing was supposed to be 17.15hrs. Not a very high tide yesterday but the full on westerly gale kept the water on the causeway and with some sand build up crossing was delayed. We did watch a few idiots take it on, others started but bottled it causing quite a jam. Coupled to one car breaking down it was mayhem for a while. It was almost dusk before we attempted the crossing and there was still 2 to 4 inches of sea covering the road at 17.50hrs.

I would not have contemplated attempting the crossing had darkness fallen and put the "Strictly no overnight parking" to the test. Coupled with the depth of water and so much drifted sand the road and markings would have been difficult to see. I'm guessing the water surface would deflect the headlight beams.

Visited the island many times over the years but this was something else. In photo 4 the sign states "Not to attempt a crossing if seawater covers causeway ahead of this point"

Your a brave person to go over that.
I would have rather had a parking fine then argued it using your photos as evidence.
Somewhere to go added to my next year list.

And not forgetting the salt wash the underside of your MH had to endure!
I would have stayed put! And bugger the consequences,
